Car stalled...why??

2002 automatic

left the car running, stepped out (car was in D with parking brake on) for 3 mins. come back in and see everything is still on (lights/radio) but the car was off. Started back up a1 no problems. I thought it mighta been the air filter cuz it was pretty dirty, so I cleaned it...but anyone know what the problem mighta been?

your car blowing up is the least of his problems. The problem is your ebrake may accidently fail causing the car to roll and potentially hit someone/something. Or your car may freakishly start revving because of a throttle problem and move anyways.

Thats why.. you should just put it in neutral...

ya N is right next to D all you do is tap the shifter up one. you dont even need to squeeze the button.

why the would my car roll thru an intersection? i dont use it at lights. i do deliveries with my car, but its newspaper deliveries. and the times it takes me from going from D to P, after 200 times a night, actuall does add up and makes the difference between me finishing late and on time (since i usually finish RIGHT on time) and i did used to put my car in N, but then when i put it back in D i have to wait an extra second, or two, before i push the gas, otherwise the car will have a nasty kick. and as i said, those 2 seconds actually add up

I'm not going to be an @$$, but seriously, you have to take the time to release the ebrake, isn't that about the same amount of time it would take to put it back in drive from park?? You really shouldn't be leaving it in gear unattended. As a matter of fact, if there isn't a law against this, there should be. Your car will eventually hurt someone or destroy something. I suggest you purchase a new car with a manual transmission to break yourself of this habit.

Alternatively, if you leave your windows open, and dive into the car, rather than taking the 3 seconds required to open the door and get in, you will save yourself one second per stop. All those single seconds add up.

Ok, so I did end up being an @$$, sorry.
