Bad Alt. New Brushes?

So my Alternator has gone out. I just noticed while driving on the freeway today. Came to a stop on the freeway and my CHG/BATTERY light came on. When my engine got to around 3500 rpms it would shut off, then come back on around idle. I got home and with the car running disconnected the battery, wham, engine died and lights turned off. So my Alty has taken a dump. I checked hondaautomotiveparts.com/alt and they don't sell the complete unit for my 01 sedan (or at least its not in stock). They do have the brushes and some bearings. Do you think it is the brushes that have gone out on me? If so, is it possible to replace the bearings and the brushes? I am pretty good with my hands and pretty competent. I just don't want to bend over at the dealer for such a rediculous part.

Thanks!

EDIT!
Just went to Autozone and picked up a Re-manned one for $142. Lifetime warranty. Took a little over an hour. Problem solved.
