Rear Seal Leak on 04 Canadian SE?

Hey, i've read through all the posts regardings TSBs, and i'm wondering if anyone has had any problems with 01+ rear seal oil leaking. The car has 65000kms (40k miles) and while I was underneath the car I noticed it for the first time. It's not leaking enough to drip, but it's noticeable. If I try to take in some of the TSB info I found like:

Component Description:
71. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
Bulletin Number: 111303
Bulletin Date: OCT 2004
Vehicle: 2004 Honda Civic

Summary:
REQUEST FOR VISIT. ENGINE OIL LEAKS AT THE HEAD COVER, THE REAR SEAL, OR THE OIL PAN. ( NHTSA ITEM NUMBER - 10005345 )

Will they tell me to take a hike or do I have a case that this should be fixed under warranty? I'm wondering what will happen when they plug into my engine and find out how often I take it to just before redline before shifting. I'd appreciate any helpful advice on this.

Thanks for the advice, and maybe i'll take it under consideration, but that doesn't help me with my current problem, you see.

I've set up an appointment with the dealer, and I mentioned that I had been reading about TSBs online.. his attitude changed right away. He also claimed that american TSBs do not apply to Canada at all - does anyone know if this is true? I remember reading that in the sticky on TSBs but only one person said it.

Can anyone tell me what to expect when I take it in? The only difference from stock is 17" rims on Yoko Parada Spec-2s - will this label me as a racer and result in them telling me its my fault? I would love to hear from anyone who has had any experiences with dealers on issues like this, TIA.

well from reading what you posted....the tsb you list is for 2004 civic you have a 2001? it isn't gonna be of any help.

secondly I don't believe there is any way to tell how a car is driven except for wear and tear components. the computer, I don't believe, (unless someone has some proof) stores info unless it's out of specs.

Oh, I have a 2004, I meant 01+ as in anyone else with a newer then 01. The dealer told me he had no TSBs fitting that description for 04 Civics. When I explained that I had some which I had obtained online, he said they were american and wouldn't apply. I mentioned that I had been told my a couple of Honda techs that they DO apply across the border (anyone know if this is true?) - he ignored me and told me they had none on file.

well i would print them out at least and go in and cause a fit about why you were sold an unreliable, supposedly "100k mile maintenance-free" car...

if all else fails call up Honda of Canada (like Honda of america) and ask them what you or they should and could do for you....

It sounds like thats what I should do. Thanks for the advice shroom.

Anyone think I should take off my 17s and go stock when I go to the dealer?

you need to remember a TSB isnt something that a dealer is required to pay for. the TSB was made because at one time there was alot of problems with leaking and what not and the dealer found the cause and solution and made the service bulletin. now these are made available to techs later that may run into the same problem and cant figure it out. But it isnt a recall and if you are out of warranty, they may charge you.

Thanks street, that gives me some perspective. Thankfully the car IS under warranty, 65K on a 100K warranty.. the only thing i'm worried about is them trying to weasle their way out of paying for it.

if your car is under warranty, they will pay. now the only problem is if you have an extended warranty in which things you think are covered arent.

I checked the warranty booklet, and it lists "All seals, gaskets, etc" under the 100K powertrain warranty. The only thing that worries me is when you read deep into the booklet under the legal section, where it lists racing as one of the things that voids a warranty. But how can they prove it?

if all you have is rims, they shouldnt void is because of that. the biggest reason why is the dealer sells cars with oversized rims/tires. Every honda dealer I have been to in the past year has a civic in the showroom with all types of engine upgrades, rims/tires, exhaust, etc... besides bigger rims wont cause on oil leak.
