i hear a scratching sound by my right front wheel

i know that i have to change my brake pads...but today while i was driving on the highway, i hear a scratching sound by my front right wheel. sometimes there's a sound, sometimes no sound. the sound sounds like two metals scratching...what could be wrong? cause damn, i'm at my gf's house and i need to get back to school, that's 2.5 hours away...but i'm scared to drive my car on the highway with that metal scratching sound......

well if you know you need brakes, it could be the wear indicator scratching the rotor.

i know that when the brake pad is low, and when i press on the break, it's going to squeak...but this is when i'm just cruising or accelerating that makes this sound. and when i lightly step on the break, it doesn't make the sound....but as soon as i release the break, there it goes again. i have no idea what could be touching.....

its your brake pads. i had the same problem. changed my brake pads and sound when away. if you drive like that the sound should go away after like 10 minutes of driving. think cause the rotors get warm then sound went away.
