A/C Whistles

I searched with no luck. Every minute or 2, my car makes a high pitched "whoo" noise. It sounds as if it's coming from the driver's side engine bay (but that could be because i'm sitting there). It's only when the A/C is on. Doesn't matter how hard the fans are blowing, it makes the same noise whether i'm sitting there in the parking lot or driving while both accelerating and slowing down. I cant consistantly reproduce it. Any clue what it could be? '01 EX Sedan with about 90k miles.

It's your compressor engaging. Very typical flaw that you just have to live with. Mine does it too!

If the noise is the compressor making the noise, it's not a flaw, the compressor cycles to keep the evaporator from freezing up, it's designed that way.

The noise you're hearing can also be the condenser fan kicking on.

Re: A/C Whistles

This thread's pretty old, but mine car makes this noise too. Sounds like someone peeps their head in your window and lets out a little whistle.. hahha. It sounds like "huh"? but whistled... haha that's the best I can explain.

Re: A/C Whistles

There is a TSB from Honda its not worth reading. Your car is normal like the other guy says when your car's a/c engages the freon moves through this really small valve in the a/c lines. Well imagin blowing through a really small hole it makes a whistle sound. Sometimes if you dont have enough freon it will do the same. Might want to check it but I wouldnt really worry about it until it stops working GOOD LUCK!!!
