I got the check engine light on, checked in autozone, it's P0135 O2 sensor heater circuit bank 1 sensor 1.

Does anyone have any expeirence with this code? Does it mean the O2 sensor is bad, or the wiring?

I searched the forum, only found very limited info, and none for honda 2000.

I may go get a diagnostic, but the dealer is charging $100. So I want to see whether this is something I can do myself. I have electronics knowlege, but no much with cards.

Sounds like the Primary O2 sensor is bad. You can replace it with a Denso brand O2 sensor. Autozone has O2 wrenches and sockets you can borrow for no cost. Good luck.

Do you mean the heater circuit is part of the O2 sensor, or it means the wiring outside of the sensor?

The O2 sensor is a 4-wire, so the heater is part of the sensor.

Thanks for the quick reply. I understand this can be the O2 sensor issue, or the wiring issue. How can I know for sure that the sensor is bad, but not the outside wiring, so I can replace it?

So, how to test and make sure the old o2 sensor heater is bad?

The steps should be in the honda service manual. You can also use google to find ways of testing O2 sensors.

Depending on the engine and config, O2 sensors are supposed to be replaced every 60,000/100,000 miles for optimum fuel economy anyway.

First thing to do is check and see if the plug came loose. I had one work its way out of the socket and it threw the heater circuit code. Unfortunately the best way to run self-diagnostics on the issue is to change the sensor, reset the code and see if it stays off. More than likely its a bad sensor, they go, exhaust is hot, nothing lasts forever in that environment.
Just replace it, its $43.75 from Majestic Honda. You can rent the tool from autozone for free, I suggest you do, they're rounded corners on purpose, regular wrenches don't like to grab. Once you get the new one in, you can pull the battery wire to see if the light goes off, but if you're in a state with emissions inspections, you gotta hook the car back up to an OBDII scanner and make sure the code is cleared from the computer's memory.
