Heat Guage going to HOT when idle or in bumper to bumper traffic
I have an 02 Civic EX. I was doing a long drive home the other day when i got into bumper to bumper traffic on I-95, i looked down at the dash and saw my temp guage on HOT. I started moving again, it went back down to the middle of the guage where it normally sits. Whenever i start moving, it goes back down, when i sit, its up there all the way. Any suggestions on what it could be?

im having the same problem dude.. from what ive been reading the past couple of days it could be a bunch of things.. either a thermostat, radiator cap, coolant level, possibly head gasket, fans.. it seems like this is a common accurance in our rides.. Im gonna be taking in my car for a coolant check to see what the problem is, seems like the best idea for now since it could be so many things its hard to know.. Do you have any coolant spilling from the overflow?? did you check to see if your oil is not a milky color??
took the car in, no problems with leaking, no problem with the cooling system, problem is a small exhaust leak. Mech said it could possibly be a blown head gasket way past anything. Mite have destroyed the engine..not sure yet...I dont know what to do..im a military guy makin like little $$.

It comes down again when go fast (at high speed) or just for moving the car. If it is when you go at high speeds it could be the fans. When the car is stop and the temp goes up the fans should come on. When you are at high speeds the wind air colds the radiator.
