Removal of silver trim piece around shifter?

I want to change mine out and when looking at it I would think the whole console needs to be removed to get at the screws underneath. Also appears to me the fat part of the shifter handle (where you click it to shift gears) would need to be removed also to slide the silver trim piece from around it. Has anyone ever replaced this piece? Part #11 in this picture:

just take the two screws off the shifter itself and you will be able to slide it over the shifter...p/m RHCP0801 for detials...as he did an auto shifter shift boot conversion...
