noise like gurgle/compression
My 2001 Civic (stock Canadian LX sedan with ~ 14,000 km) has a strange noise I've never heard from a car before except when the exhaust system needs repair - and my exhaust system is fine.
It sounds somewhat like a car with a damaged exhaust system (e.g. no muffler) when driving and letting go of the gas pedal, where the engine compression (at least with a manual transmission) causes a loud rumbling/gurgling noise.
So anyways, my car makes this noise (comes from under the front somewhere!) when I drive at a constant speed (regardless of actual speed) and will become worse if I let go of the gas or if I accelerate. It doesn't happen when I brake. It usually occurs when the pavement if wet, whether driving through puddles or just humid pavement, but I've also heard it in dry road conditions.
It's difficult to reproduce, it happens about once or twice a month, so I've not been able to have my dealership listen to it, and they have no clue what it could be.
This is my 1st car with ABS, so I'm wondering if this might be caused by the ABS system if water/humidity gets in the wheels.
Any thoughts on what might cause this (and how to get rid of it) would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Richard

abs wouldnt be causing this, it could be water in the resonator box under the hood? consider a cheap tape recorder, I bought one for a sound my civ was makeing when the dealer said it couldnt be reproduced

It sounds like a burble to me... This is also happening on my 2k1 dx coupe... 4k miles, no abs of course... ONLY on rainy days... bumps or turns MAY have something to do with it. I've only had it happen three times, and while in gear, but off the gas. Its puzzling, but i'm gonna check the air box/ resonator.
weird.
