the last few months i have noticed my transmission whines quite a bit when in first and second gear when im slowing to a stop. also, when im creeping through traffic in first (say a parking lot with traffic, bumper to bumper traffic, etc.) my first gear sounds like a powerwheels car. i removed my catback exhaust over the weekend and now it is like 10x more noticable.

anyone know of the cause of this or is it even a cause for concern?

btw, my car has about 58,000 miles on with a revo short shifter.

some people hear this before their tranny goes out...but if its been for two months i dont know

would it be the entire tranny that goes or just 1-2 gear since those are the ones making all the noise?

Look at the stickies, there is one about diagnosing trans noises.
I have the same problem. Low rpms in first and second make a noise,which resembles grumbling or maybe bearings in a soda can, rattling. It does not happen all the time, probably like a third of teh time now, maybe less. It is hard to gauge soemthing like that, cause I just cannot pay attention to a sound each time i start my car off. I do know that it used to be less, both in frequency and volume, like three months ago. I am thinking it is the input shaft beariing, because I used to do way too many burn outs. I used to feather the clutch like hell and do launches. At least I learned something, but now I just know thtat I will be pissed when the moment comes where my buddy and I try to lift that trans out of the car.
