Vibrating noise in the left wheel area when I turn my wheel

There is a vibrating noise everytime i turn the wheel to the left or right and sometimes it would have the vibrating noise even tho i dont turn the wheel. The vibrating noise is coming from the left side of the wheel area. I have a 2002 civic ex sedan. Thanks in advance.

well i just came back from sear's auto center and the mechanic said that it was the steering component and said something was pivoting or something like that and recommended me to go to the dealership. He couldnt tell exactly where it was coming from but does anybody know anything as of what it might be and if it would be expensive? Thanks

Care to speak in some more definite terms? What is the steering component, and what do they say is wrong. No one is going to figure anything out if you're gonna give a description like that.

Vibrations are typically caused by something thats not balanced, such as the wheel itself. Something being lose or worn typically causes funny noises.

Angry

ok after coming from the dealership, i found out it had nothing to do with the steering or any parts of it. I was wondering which one of these should I do and if i have to do the recommended replacement. Here is it that they said was wrong with my car.

1) Converter Shields are rotted loose. Estimate $120.00 plus tax
2) Front Struts are leaking. Estimate for replacement $463.00 plus tax. with strut replacement alignment is recommended estimate for the alignment $79.95 plus tax
3) Front Stabilizer Links are showing signs of play recommend replacement estimate $107.00 plus tax.

And my driver seat rocks back and forth but im out of warranty so they wanted $121.40 plus tax. Can I do this myself or at a shop for a lot less? Thanks

1. have the shield removed/welded to eliminate noise
2. WAY to exspensive..... You can get some good aftermarket ones for the same or less$$$
3. Again seems a little high...

Id do some shoppping or look in to DIY

But what would i really need to replace the strut? and i dont trust most mechanics in my area. Is there any struts that would just replace the factory ones? Im not really sure what the struts are? Sorry im a noob lolz

Yo, MiStAmOo

Your vibration problem, I think there is a TSB out on this. Let me look..... Hmm, maybe not, the one I was thinking of was 02-045, "Creaking or Ticking from the dashboard or a front strut"... It happens because.. oh hell, let me C&P the salient details:

Service Bulletin
Creaking or Ticking From the Dashboard or a Front Strut
(Supersedes 02-045, dated August 13, 2002)
SYMPTOM
A creaking or ticking comes from the dashboard or
front fender area. The noise occurs when driving over
bumps, and sometimes when braking or turning.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Paint from the front damper mounting base is sticking
to the body or burrs from a body spot weld are
contacting the front damper mounting base.
DIAGNOSIS
With the hood open and the vehicle parked, rock the
vehicle from side to side, and listen for a creaking or
ticking noise coming from the front damper area. If you
are unable to duplicate the noise, test-drive the vehicle
over small bumps to help confirm the noise.
• If a creaking or ticking noise comes from the
dashboard or front damper area, go to the
appropriate REPAIR PROCEDURE.
• If the noise is not a creaking or ticking from the
dashboard or front damper area, continue
troubleshooting.

This "alignment suggested with strut replacement" stuff is crap, BTW. In my opinion, suggested is the wrong word, it should be MANDATORY. Jesus, that's like saying "balancing is recommended when mounting new tires".

Your driver's seat has the adjustable height ****, right? If so, it rocks because the bushings are shot. There IS a TSB on this .... 01-057. According to the TSB, you need six bushing kits (P/N 90502-S3N-013, HC 6690440) for the repair and a half hour of shop time.

If you do the seat yourself, please post back and let us know how it goes. My car has the same problem, I will probably do it myself, although it looks like a major pain in the @ss. Not hard, just time consuming and fiddly.

Wes

Thanks for the info but i got lazy so i just paid for the front struts and converter shield at the dealership. The seat rocking back and forth, I was going to leave it till i have time to actually take out the seat and do it myself. Seems hard tho but ill update if I do and I ran out of warranty so the TSB wouldnt matter. Shouldve got extended warranty lol
