well you're basically putting more stress on the other mounts. Drive it really carefully and as smooth as possible because you could potentiall break the other mounts.

And with the new mount install the inserts, or you will have a worn mount soon...
Your engine moves, and the mounts are subjected to the engine movement, they are like dampers that stop the engine from moving too much and to reduce the vibration that you feel.... something like that.

You have me thinking about this now. Think I should have it checked out, I keep hearing a rattle coming from the left driver side when taking off and when hitting small bumps.

well, it cost about 50 dollars for each mount.. and the labor cost is about 180 if you want to replace all 4 mounts... so, about 45forlabor+50 dollars for the mount... i actually i got 2 motor mounts and transmission mount replaced for 150 with labor... but thats because it was my friend's dad shop..
but good luck to you...
but good luck to you... How do you change the mounts (is it something you can do without dropping the engine) and how do you check if you have bad ones. When i rev the engine, it rocks but I don't have any vibrations or anything.

it happens from junk mounts. if they are available, go aftermarket. you'll be able to tell by looking usually they will be cracked or damaged. if you dont feel bad vibrations they are prolly fine for now.

you will notice excessive movement from the motor if the mount is broken when you rev it. you will also see some movement in the shifter when releasing the clutch when starting out. its not a huge deal unless others are broken too. just take it easy and as far as using factory mounts- think about how fast they went already aftermarket should be stronger and be able to take more abuse with out breaking but they will also cause more vibration becasue most of the time the inserts they use are stiffer

the front is around $60, the side (timing belt) is around $100
you could inspect them, if the rear aren't broke the other three you can replace them by yourself, even if don't know anything about cars, "just have to know how to bolt and unbolt a bolt", the rear is the same but with a little space
just unbolt it and install the new mount in the same form the other was, torque it with a 3/8" ratchet and that's all, for the timing side mount you should use a long (deep-well) socket
OBVOUSLY REPLACE ONE AT A TIME, AND DON'T START THE ENGINE OR DRIVE THE CAR

the mounts control the movement of the engine, excesive movement of the engine can cause other engine problems especially on a manual trans. the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel can be damaged...
