Winding Noise When I First Start Car?
Hey guys need some advice on problem with my car. Car currently had 75k miles on it. No maintainence done except for changing the oil regularly and changing the brake pads.
It's cold up in here in VA, and about a week ago I noticed a windy noise every time I started the car and went. It will eventually go away, or become less audible as I drive, but it happens every time I start the car. It's been cold constantly here, so I'm not sure if it's related.
Talked to one of my friends and he thinks it could be one of my belts? Definitely coming from the engine somewhere. Other then the sound, car runs fine though. Any advice? It kinda sounds like it's coming from the intake, but it's like high pitched kinda.

That can be a few things that you need to have checked out immediately.
If you're lucky, it's a power steering pump or an alternator bearing about to go out. Possibly even low fluid in the power steering resevoir or transmission.
If you're unlucky, like the rest of us 01-02 Civic owners, thats the sound of the transmission pump getting ready to fail.
The torque converters in these cars are prone to fail, sending debri through the transmission and eventually causing it to fail.
Cost for replacement? $2000 + labor.
My '02 Civic EX is currently sitting in my driveway with this EXACT same problem you describe, whines when cold, goes away when warm. I tracked the noise to the transmission and started calling around and checking around this forum. Sadly, it's a very common failure 01-02 Hondas.
I luckily have a backup car to drive in the mean time. I'm looking to trade mine off before it actually stops moving.
