My 03 LX coupe, getting this odd noise.
Sometimes when I first fire up the motor, I have a really low volume "WHIIIIIIZ"
When the motor revs the frequency of the wheeezzzzz gets a little higher but the volume of the noise doesn't change.
Any ideas? Seems like it stays for a while and then just stops, not so much when the car is warm but just like after 30 minutes or so, then it just stops doing that.
(no accessories running at that time either)

may be the tranny whining i dont know could you be any more specific mabie a sound clip i could tell you for sure.
well, like I was saying...it's more of a high frequency "purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" but like somewhat more quiet than the engine noise itself. It gets louder as the engine revs, and then eventually will go away (sometimes cold or warmed up) after some time.
Almost sounds more like a "wheeeeeez" as I rev up to 3k...
Really boggling my mind.

is it a manual or an auto? Im not tryin to scare you but my transmission (auto) recently went out completly on me (honda said it was even missing bolts!?!?!?!) but it was making the sound that I think you are tryin to describe right before it went out on me. Good luck hope you dont end up like mine.
ya when the clutch pack breaks from bad design, the pieces go through the pump and make a whine noise. or it could be clutch, power steering, alternator, hard to say.
Sounds like it is the Input shaft bearing issue. Well, too bad for my dealership. They're gonna be taking my tranny apart piece by piece. I bought this Civic used only 2 weeks ago. I will say though, it is the nicest, quietest, cleanest used car I've seen. Not to mention it only has 37k on it.
I'm happy with the car, and I'm even happier they gave me the Extended HondaCare warranty on top of my 7yr or 100k mile drivetrain warranty.
