Service Question

My car is getting a Type D service right now, which is the following:

Replace engine oil* and filter.
Service front and rear brakes.
Rotate tires**, inspect for wear and adjust pressure.
Lubricate all hinges, locks, and latches with multipurpose grease.
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.
Inspect suspension components.
Inspect driveshaft boots.
Inspect and adjust drive belts.
Replace dust and pollen filter.
Replace air cleaner element.

So replacing Air Cleaner Element, does this mean they are replacing my air filter? I called them and they said if it needs to be replaced, they replace it. Then I said that I have an aftermarket washable filter, so shouldnt it be taken off the price of the service? And they said that if it needs to be replaced, it's extra. My question is, WTF is Replace Air Cleaner Element then? Shouldn't it be INSPECT?

My question to you is 'why are you paying them to do things that you know you don't need?'

out of that list the only thing I'd pay for them to do since I'm not familiar with it is the brakes. but ask them what 'service' brakes means....turning rotors? resurfacing rotors? checking clearance of pads and calipers and drums to shoes?

They take the brakes apart, and clean them out completely, then put them back together.

I follow the maintenance calendar because I want things done by the book. Don't bash it just because you don't follow it. I was simply asking if replace air cleaner element is really what they say it is. If I have to pay for an air filter, then why wouldn't it be Inspect Air Filter Element?

you want it done by the book, buy the service manual yourself and save the cost of dealer prices.

I don't follow it because I know how much of a rip off it is. unless you know the techs do a good job (a lot of them don't anymore) it isn't worth paying them to do the same "routine" maintenance you could do yourself

Short Answer: if you want them to replace it, let them. if you can wash it yourself tell them to not replace it. the price is not a bundled price, certain parts cannot be 'taken off' the price unless the service advisor ok's it. you need to get your head straight on this stuff. the dealership is ripping you off.

but hey if you want to do it your way i respect that 100%. I'm entitled to my opinion as you're entitled to object to it.

For the 2nd time, I did not ask your opinion on how I should be servicing my car. If I knew how to do these things myself, I would.

I dont have a way to get under my car to do inspections. Nor do I have the experience to look for what could be going wrong. My family has followed the maintenance schedule for all our Honda's and we will continue to. They are the ones trained to find problems. If they try to force something onto me that I dont need done, I wont do it. But I'd like to keep my car running healthy and safely for many years. Again, what does it matter to you how I maintain my car? Completely off topic.

Well no, they're not going to replace ****. THey said to me if you had a stock air filter and it needed to be replaced, we would charge you for the replacement. That's why I'm asking you guys why does it say REPLACE AIR CLEANER ELEMENT as part of the package if that is not included in the price. I was hoping someone had just done a Type D and can tell me their experience.

because you're paying for service not parts. read the fine print.
and don't backtalk yourself.

if you want to get to understand your car better you need some experience. best way to do is by learning I dunno why you think I've been flaming you I never once said anything negative to you....this site is for education purposes as well i thought, so why not use the knowledge you gain on here to take care of you car like a lot of the rest of us do. believe me you WILL save money in the long run. its worth it man.

They took the price off the package as I did not need an air filter replaced. The service lady was ****ed in the head and didnt know what she was talking about.

Anyways they replaced 2 element filters.. WTF is that? She said those are different than your air filter

the cabin air filters. they are located behind the glovebox. they SHOULD cost you no more than 20-25 if you shop around.

i hope you didnt pay for them to do that stuff... all of it is so easy, the only thing i would do is get your brakes checked. everything else you can easily do yourself. it just takes alittle bit of confidence.

I'll disagree with that because in certain regions there is a lot of pollen and the likes. I changed mine cuz they were also black from air pollution. some areas you may not need to ever change them but in some cases its a good idea. best thing to do is to at least acknowledge their existance by checking them maybe every 50,000 miles or so.....

There is a maintenance schedule available from Honda's website. Some choose to follow it, some choose to do their own thing. If you have nothing important to add, other than "why would u pay for that" or "omfg thats gay who would pay for that" or some other highschool ****, then please, stay out of my thread.

Yeah they said the filter is under the hood too, but it's not the air filter.. meh, whatever. Had to do an alignment too.

air filter is under the hood, cabin filters are behind the glove box inside. your owners manual describes how to change both.
