Does your gas gauge suck? Mine does.

Hey everybody, this might be old news, so if it is, too bad.
I just got back from the dealer b/c my gas guage was completely wonky
from about a quarter of a tank on down.
It would drop to empty, then perk up an hour later, and so on.
The dealer told me that Honda just released a bulletin saying that many of
the gas gauges in the civics are lousy and should be replaced if the
customer is having a problem with it.
It's not an official recall, but it's a bulletin.
So for all of you out there with sucky gas gauges, and I know there are a lot of you,
you might want to look into it.
Just thought I'd pass along the info.
I'm always looking out for all of you people.
Yes, I will let you buy me a slurpee as a thank you.
Later.

I kind of have a sucky gas gauge... never knew it was a problem though, it seems really INaccurate! It would go down to half, then go back up to 65%, and it would confuse the hell out of me, because if it's at 20% gas... the next morning I start up the car, the gas light would come on...

im surprised this thread hasnt been
yet. but yea i have that problem sometimes too. oh well, its not a big deal only once did the gauge nearly caused a problem for me. gas light didnt go on until my tank was near empty, had to pump 12.5 gallons in. Once I put 13.8 in the 13.2 tank with no overtoping. Probably the ARCO gas pump was bad. I don't have any "weird problem" with the gas guage but is anoing that the guage is not indicating well at least the major units 3/4, 1/2, 1/4. Oh computer ERA.
I use the tripmeter in conjunction with the gas guage. Basically I know that once I drive about 300 miles I will need gas soon (usually about 1 gallon left). What's weird is that after about 150 miles the gas guage is at about half, you would think that would be normal if I can go 300 miles on a tank. Well then I go another 75 miles and it should be at 1/4 but it stays at half. Then it finally drops to show about 1/4 when I know I am almost out. Sure enough, I get gas and I put in about 10 gallons... meaning I only had about 1 gallon left yet it showed I had 1/4 tank which should be enough for about 75 miles... no way 1 gallon could make 75 miles...
edit: nm... just read another post. for some reason I thought it was an 11.5 gallon tank or something.

well you guys put crappy gas in, drive the car wrong, and somehow expect the fuel gauge to still work after you get done messing it up.
Mine is really inaccurate also.
When the needle is below empty, i can only pump 40L of gasoline. Tank has 50L capacity. okay you might say there's a few liters of reserve but i mean it was below the empty line! This happened atleast 15times

just curious, how much gas is left in reserve once the gas light comes on?
i remember when my light came on i was wondering if i can risk going 20 miles on the freeway back to my home and fill up the gas in the morning and then i had second thoughts and just went to the nearest gas station

it should be a gallon or two. when my light came on I went about 50 miles
and it was in the city for about 15 miles.
when I started it the next day the car took a couple cranks and was starving for fuel, but it made it to the station which is less then a mile from my house.
hey i have the same problem over here in the uk, my fuel gauge is all over the place, 20 quids worth of petrol sometime fills up to 3 quarters of a tank or less than half other times! or it'll be on empty for ages and the light never comes on
