Clutch?
Clutch?
I'm driving home yesterday and and I'm in 5th gear. I go to pass a truck and drop into 4th. Thats when the problem started. It was a normal shift except when I went to give it some gas, the car didn't go forward like it should. So now I'm driving in 4th and the rpms are level where they are supposed to be, only everytime I try to accelerate, the car doesn't pull forward and the rpm's just rise. It was almost like my clutch was pressed in everytime I tried to acclerate. I coasted for as long as I could and pulled over. It had that clutch burning smell. The car will go into any gear, it just won't take off.
It's a 2001 EX 5 speed, 85,000 miles.

yeah, 85k is a little early, but normal if the car is drive aggressively. You should probably check the clutch fluid make sure you did not use it up or something silly like that
But it sounds like a fried clutch to me.
But it sounds like a fried clutch to me. A little test that I was taught, tho I have never used it, but have seen it: car on, handbrakes engaged, clutch in, put to first gear, n drop the clutch, the car should stall instantly if the clutch is good, or jerk forword a little bit first then stall if its slipping, or in your case, the car might not stall at all n your clutch is totally dead.
Dragon, Yeah, I did the little test and the car engine keeps running. No stall. I guess I'll be taking it somewhere tomorrow cuz gas is killing me in the Silverado!!! I'll let you all know how it goes.
