cel is on again!!
well last sunday i had a cel(check engine light) come on when i was heading bak home and decided to see if i can find out wat is it. i got it sorta scanned at advance auto from a friend but we couldnt get the code cause the scanner would show it for an instant and then send it to the printer so no chance we could get it. so he cleared it for me and told me to come bak if it comes on again. for a whole week it never came on until todai, which is a sunday once again.... only thing i had done to the car was an exhaust(rsr-ex mag w/random tech cat) and had installed everything right(o2 sensor all put bak on everything) nd that was about several months ago. i noe that if it was something related to the exhaust or o2 it would instantly show up again even if it was cleared not a whole week after. plz help me guys. im trying to see if my friend can scan it tommorrow if not the next day. thx

I have no idea where any of those codes are from. No codes start with J0000 unless it is some high end car that has a trouble code for every part on the vehicle. also there is no 1680-90 codes. Is your car a civic?
Also our cars have no TCM, BCM, CCM. everything is inside of the PCM. And we have no sentry key immobilizer unit.

just wondering if i take it to the dealership would they check everything for free cause my car is under warranty. only thing im worried about is taht i have an exhaust and i doubt its the cause of this cel but they would still check it for free as long as its nothing related to the exhaust correct?

max it will take them a couple min and they will charge you 32.50 for 1/2 of work it's the lowest they will charge.
advance or auto zone though should do it fine just have someone else do the scan besides your friend don't want to sound mean but it sounded like he didn't know what he was doing. code scanners are pretty easy to use.

well he does know how to use it and pulled the code j1850. but like i said im plannin on taking my car to a local shop which my friends friend works at and see if he can pull the code and see wat it means. was supposed to go tonite but someone locked his friend out of the toolbox which contained the scanner so im hoping to go tommorrow sometime. so if i do go tommorrow ill see wat exactly the code is and post it. back to the dealership question they would still charge me even tho i have warranty on the car? wat if i bring in the code and/or wat it means would they b able to go from there or would they still want to scan the cel? sorry if some of this doesnt make sense cause my mind is like not here right now.

yell they probably wont charge you unless the light is on because of something you did then they may just want to be mean.
if you have the code and tell them what it means they can tell you what needs to be fixed and how much if any it will cost.

if your car is under warranty, take it to the dealership and have them fix it for free. Dont see why you are even waisting your time trying to get info on the code when you have a warranty?

well i didnt get my cel checked out for some god noes y reason prob because my friend didnt call me up but anyways. i was picking up my paycheck at work and on the way there the cel was still on cause i didnt get it cleared or wat not. after getting my paycheck i turned on the car and then...wait a min the cel light went away...wtf? im guessin the exhuast was loose and came undone but after i arrived to work i guess the bumps in the road at work allowed the exhaust to jam bak into place and in turn the cel goes away. so im gonna check my exhaust at work hopefully this weekend sometime at my work(i work at goodyear) and see if the bolts have come loose or not.

the exhaust being loose should really make no difference on whether the light comes on or off. Sounds like maybe a loose connection somewhere or possibly something is pinching a wire and causing a short.
Now if you work at goodyear, why not have the code scanned there? I am pretty sure goodyear employees ASE certified techs and one is bound to have a scanner. Or at least the shop should.

well i did ask and they told me i should just go to honda instead basically in their terms "were to ****ing lazy to do it for u so go waste yer time and go to honda to get screwed over" ya every station hates each other. elube and tech guys hate the guys up front, and elube guys hate tech guys(keep in mind we dont actually go around fighting each other its that mutual crap). but anyways im gonna check my exhaust hopefully this weekend sometime anyways cause i can tell its either loose or very loose from the amount of vibrations and noise im getting(almost like the noise u would get as if a bolt has come loose and is making the vibrating noise). i think b.c of that its pressing the o2 sensor against the car or something pinching the connection. thx for the help and ill keep u guys posted
