well thats what does it. If you align the wheels, the steering wheel should also be corrected. I had the same problem with my old jetta but didn't have the $ to fix it. Wheel would be turned to the right to go straight.

You need an alignment. You can't just unbolt the steering wheel and move it. There are staggered splines on the steering wheel such that it only fits on in one orientation.

I think what he means is that it drives straight.. like he can let go of the wheel and the car will still go straight, but if he goes over a bump, then the wheel jerks to the right..
am I correct? Because that's what mine did.. what that turned out to be was that the passenger side strut was leaking really really really bad.. I had both front struts replaced under warranty and it was good to go after that. It's been fine since

He's saying that the car travels straight when you let go of the wheel, the to go straighht, the steering wheel is crooked to the right. My car goes straight as a arrow but the steering wheel is a little off, wondered about this myself?

^^^ Yess you are correct... it goes straight when i'm not holding onto the wheel basically, but to go straight in the first place my steering wheel is clocked almost a 1/6th turn to the right...

as tacheon said, your alignment is out. Most likely your toe is out. All you need to do is take it in for an alignment and they will turn the steering wheel straight in the forward position, hold it there and adjust the toe. Then it will be back to normal.

If you keep getting in "Small accidents" Stop crashing the car or stop driving it..
Recentering the wheel does nothing but bias the rack off center. If your alignment is so ****ed up that your steering wheel is so off that it looks like you're making a hard turn, something is broken. Plain and simple. There's no way the rack can be that far off without damage somewhere in the steering system.

ummm, the steering wheel can be put on any way upside down, or whatnot. it doesnt matter. Well it does matter for alignment purposes.

They need to put your wheel straight, and align it. Your steering wheel centered, should be where you need the car aligned. (confusing?? sorry). If you put the wheel on at a different angle, it will let you turn sharper one way than the other. You dont want that though. You want a centered alignment. Whoever did yours sucked. Tell them to redo it proper.
