Dash trunk light on but the trunk is closed?

I have a 05 LX SE and did the accord trunk popper diy. Worked like a charm then about 3 weeks later, the dash trunk light goes on and stays on. The trunk closes and opens with no issues. I thought I may have a bad trunk popper mechanism so I swapped the old one back in but the light is still on. I plan to bring it to the dealer for an oil change and raise the question. But due to my natural distrust of dealers, I would like to know if anyone experienced this before or if there is a way for me to trouble shoot it myself. Thanks.

are you sure the trunk is closed all the way? Try wiggling around the trunk while observing the light on the dash to see if it flickers. It probably has to do with something you did when you did the DIY, but then again you said it happened 3 weeks after you did the DIY.

Now I dont have a detailed wiring diagram of the gauge assembly (the honda service manaul doesnt give detailed ones) so I really cant back trace what the problem might be for you. What you can do though is back trace all the wiring you did and make sure nothing is potentially shorting out anywhere and make sure any ground connection is secured.

When the trunk is closed its tight and secure with no wierd noises when I drive. But when I get home, I'll "wiggle" the connections to see if there is any flicker on the dash light.

I tried playing with the connections last night and everything is tight. No trunk light flicker when I wiggle the connecting wire. Any other thoughts?

Good question. I want to say no since I don't remember the trunk light being on when I had the backseats folded down, while I was checking the connections. I'll check later.

I found some wiring info for the 02-03 Coupe. I may or may not be similar to yours. The switch is a simple grounding type circuit and a tap off up to the front "multiplex control unit"

If you want it PM with E-Mail and I will send it to you.

pm sent. The light in the trunk is indeed on when the trunk is closed. The wierd thing is that when I close the trunk, the light in the trunk dims, simliar to when you close your door and the cabin light dims then turns off, but for some reason the trunk light never goes off. I'll check out the diagram and see where that takes me.....thanks for everyone's help.

Re: Dash trunk light on but the trunk is closed?

It's not going to be the popper, that doesn't send any sort of codes or any other communication back to the ECU. So it's quite obviously the mechanism that's tripped when the trunk is closed. It's like a washing machine.......if you got the lid open the agitator won't spin but if you push the little button with your finger it things the lid is closed and spins. So whichever switch is getting tripped when the trunk is closed that is hooked to your computer and light, it's not getting tripped for some reason. Something might be bent.
