clicking when starting to move

i have a 5spd and this noise started about 2 months ago. the noise comes from the front and is the kind of CLICK or maybe a CLACK that only appears when i start moving the car from a stop.
so here is how the noise goes. stop-move a little bit-click once and sometimes twice and stops-keep moving
the noise starts almost at the same time as the car moves.

i have come to speculate that it might either be the clutch or the front suspension. i couldn't remember what one of my friends to me but "CV joint" seems to be what he said.

anyone help?

CV joint is possible. Easy way to check that, find an empty parking lot, put the car in reverse and crank the steering wheel all the way, if you hear the clicking, then it's possible CV joint. Remember to do it twice, once with the steering wheel all the way to the left and once with it cranked to the right.

It could be a CV joint, but generally that only clicks when you turn, so my guess is that it's not that.

To check the rest, start at about 10 MPH or whenever the clicking stops then floor it and see if you hear the clicking agian. This should load the suspension and if that is the problem, you should hear the clicking agian.

Try this stuff and let us know.

one thing i forgot to mention, there is no clicking when i reverse and there is only RARELY the clicking from turning.

the starting clicking is the major issue right now, argh!

a poor Constant Velocity joint does click when in motion, it is basically a joint (allowing turning on the x and y axis) and a bearing allowing motion on the z axis. in my garages i have also seen first hand a case where a poor bearing plate on the shock/strut caused a clicking when forward motion is applied, it was an automatic, nissan maxima (1999 i believe) we dianosed it by placing a screw driver (as a stethascope or however you spell it- like what the doctor uses to listen to you heart) on one of the strut mounting bolts and while holding the brake engaging the transmission into drive, at that time a noise was heard from the end of the screwdrive (held against your ear) also check your sway links, i found once on my girlfriend's fathers car the sway links had broken and were rubbing against the knuckle assembly.
the last thing to check would be your tie rod ends, ball joints (upper-lower,) and bearing. to do this jack the car up and shake the wheel left and right usually indicate poor tir rod ends, poss. play in p/s (powersteering) rack, up and down play usually indicate poor bearing, and diaganal (however you spell) play is most likely ball joints (upper-lower) or less likly but possibly multi syptom.

Oh yea very important- if you turn your wheel and look under your car you will see a shaft (axle) and a black rubber boot going directly into the center of the wheel, with the wheel turned, the rubber boot will not be linear (straight) that is your CV joint...if that boot is ripped and/or there is grease all around it, your boot is ripped and is allowing dirt to get into your cv joint, and no bearing likes dirt because it starts to wear on the surfaces creating play, and for a good note, axles tend to have two cv joints, so you have four total the outer ones get the most wear from the x axis motion, but dont forget those inner ones!

yea but it would click when backing up too if something was in the tire, the noise only occurs while in a forward motion

like really quick as it starts to move? like i said - read it up - it could be suspension related because the weight is shifted because of the motion, check all the stuff i said in the day light tomarrow and hit me back!

it goes faster if the car starts faster and vice versa. the noise isn't always there though, sometimes i get lucky and by starting the car off in a different yet unknown way, i don't hear the noise.

My car will make 2 clicks when I start forward. But it is only every once in a while. BTW, I just had all new axles and joints put on (courtesy of honda warranty). The clicking still happended before and after.

sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I've had this problem forever. It's been driving me nuts for the longest time.

I had it on my d17 ... I thought it was busted axles or something. And now I have it again on my k20 ... either my axles really suck or it has something to do with the suspension.

when I first got my k20, it was fine ... but now it's doing it again and I don't know wtf it is...
