Check Engine Light on, bring to dealer under warranty?

The darn CEL turned on today and my car only has 1300 miles. Am I allowed to bring this to the dealer for them to check it out under warranty?
They are not gonna make me pay for finding out why the light is on and fix the problem right?

I'm planning on going to the dealer first thing in the morning since I tried Autozone tonight and they told me it was too late for today for them to check codes.

How long does this take at the dealer? Is this like an all day event?

doesnt matter how old a car is or how many miles a vehicle has, a problem can occur at any time. I have seen cars brand new on the lot with less then 5 miles on it with the SRS light on, check engine light on, ABS light on, everything. Some parts last longer then others.

Now depending on what the actual code is and the actual problem is, depends on how long it is there. To be honest, they will probably keep it a few days, based on experience. They work on what is already there, so you basically have to wait in line.

The engine light turned on after a few minutes of driving on the expressway heading to the mall. On my way back home from the trip, I was merging onto the expressway and stepped on the gas to avoid getting rear ended by oncoming traffic and got it up to like 4-5K. It was raining a bit, and I felt the car like shake for like 2 secs (it was just 3 or 4 shakes) immediately after I stepped on the gas and merged onto traffic. After that, the car didn't shake anymore the rest of the way. Was that the rev limiter? or could it be the the result of the CEL?

Also I did feel that throughout the way, it felt a bit slugglish in accelerating from a stop. I mean it took just a little more effort for the car to accelerate.

honestly it could be a number of things. I really dont know. Unless you knew what the trouble code is, that would help more toward what is the problem. But if it is under warranty, dont even worry about it, let the dealership worry about it.

I just got back from the dealer this morning and they told me they will try to get it checked out before the end of the day if not, tomorrow morning. They have like 45 cars ahead of me.

There were about 30 cars all waiting for service when I got there this morning @ 6:30 am lined up on the street.

Here's what the service advisor wrote on the labor instructions:
check engine light on while driving, engine feels sluggish, check & report.

I notice that on the work order, there is a labor rate printed on there of 105.00. They are not going to charge me that under warranty right?

No, if they even try to charge you for anything, just say you want to talk to their manager about the charges, and then say you would also like to talk to who ever is in charge of costumer relations. the labor charge is common because they have to report a cost they spent n the car to Honda and so forth (just book keeping) you should not pay anything while under warrenty, unless you have modified somehting and the problem is a direct result of you modification.

HappyGilmore is an unknown quantity at this point
Common sense next time before you bring your car to dealership next time.

-Check if your gas cap was tighten after fill-up.
-Get the code read at Autozone for free.

I just picked up the car from the dealer. The report says Code P2647 VTEC OIP L PRESSURE SWITCH HIGH VOLTAGE.
It also says perform diagnost IC test-passed. Reset system and road test operation normal no check engine light on.

The cashier said no charge and sent me on my way.

well according to the manaul, if they tested it and everything was fine, they probably reset the ECU and checked to see if the code came back. And if it didnt, then there was a intermitent failure. Or your engine oil level was low.

I forgot to mention that when I got the car back I got the following items for free: small puddle of oil on the roof and a streak of oil on the rear of the car by the passenger door and a splatter of this dried brown stuff near the windshield fluid nozzle.
