Exclamation Flickering battery light on dash

I've got a problem where the battery light in the cluster intermittently flickers at idle. Rev it over 1000 rpm and it goes away. I measured the battery voltage at 13.6 with the car off and running, and everything works fine. The lights don't dim or anything when the light comes on. I've checked and cleaned the battery connections, and verified 13.6 volts at the cable (not just the terminal) when the light flickers. My only guess is the elecronic load detector? Suggestions?

It's a 2001 Coupe SI-G in Canada (DX in the USA).

it might just be the connection to the cluster. You can reach back and play with the wires but a short like that would be hard to find. The battery light can only stay on and flash, so the flicker is a loose connection somewhere.

Bad cell in the battery, weak alternator, poor ground. The ELD is working or else you would not get any charge.

Go to a parts store, have your battery load tested. Free and will tell you lots. Then if the battery is good, start with having the alternator tested. All should be free or low cost and will help you find the problem.

well the batt light is for the alt if it stays on, and for the battery if it flashes. It does both functions...

Flicker at idle is usually a sign that the alternator brushes are worn to the limit.

I used to re-brush my own, but these days I just get it changed out. Getting lazy in my old age.
