Post timing belt question
What's up guys, I just had my timing belt, alternator belt, and power steering belt replaced yesterday. Seems like steering is improved (bit tighter) but the weird thing is the gas pedel seems tighter and the
idle is a bit lower. When I very first drove it away and stopped at a red light, I pushed in the clutch and held the brake. The RPM's dropped down so low I thought it stalled. They were going below 500 RPM's, the car would slightly shake like I stalled it, then catch itself and be okay. after driving about 50 miles, it seems to be getting better, maybe dropping to about 500 RPM's but not as much. Is this normal as the belt wears in, or should I have him re-adjust it all?
Thanks

you need to reset the ecu and do the idle relearn. Pull out the FI ECU fuse or the negative battery terminal after driving the car around to warm up. Put the fuse back, start the car, and leave it at idle with no accessories/lights/fan etc and don't press the gas. Let it sit there for about 10 mins. Turn off car and then back on to drive it around and let the ecu relearn the fuel maps. Maybe the place you took it to doesn't know about this.

You shouldn't have to reset the ECU if you just replaced belts, maybe something else is wrong.... maybe it was not at top dead center and the cam gear is off a few degrees where they installed the belt...

if its off even 1 degree, the car would barely run at all. Try the ecu first for idle issues. Then if its still there, maybe they didn't have the belt tension right.

The weird thing is it seems to be getting better from when I first drove it away?
If I just disconnect the battery after it's warmed up, then let it run for 10 mins w/o any accessories on, that's it?

Well, after my 100 mile commute to work, seems like everything is worn in so to speak, and the idle is fine, actually running like a top right now....thanks again gearbox

Gearbox, I think you were exactly right. I still haven't done the fuel mapping, but in another post I explained the car was at the dealer for the headlight switch recall and to check out the electrical issues I was having. The first thing the dealer said was he "HAD" to fix the fuel mapping, the idle was off and needed to be re-learned. Thanks to you, I explained I knew exactly how to do it and he was pissed off. "well, your throttle body is dirty too and you should clean your injectors, you gonna do that yourself too", like it's such a big deal. I said yeah, fix the headlight switch and check the fuse box, that's why the car is there. They're such dicks............

^ I have no idea, would they even check that? My good friend is a head mechanic at a Land Rover dealer and he said they were just trying to "upsell" me. He was sooo f'n cockey with me, like I had no idea how to clean a simple throttle body plate?
They also wanted to do a "fuel injector service" yeah, 98$ per hour to throw fuel injector cleaner in my car, no thanks

Gearbox, I need to rep you, did the re-mapping and it's idling so good.
It was going up to 1400 RPM's yesterday, so I did what you said and it worked great
Thanks again
