Tranmission Problem 03 Civic
Tranmission Problem 03 Civic
I have a 2003 Civic LX and when I'm on a hill or incline my car rolls back when I take my foot off the brake (It's an Automatic). The car will be a drive and roll all the way back down not stopping. Also when I am at a stop sign on a flat surface and I take my foot off the brake my car doesn't even go above 0 mph it slowly creeps. When you shift from Neutral into Drive u barely feel it shifting. Does anyone else have this Problem? I'm taking it to my Honda dealer on Thursday to have it checked. But, I'm worried they will lie and say its nothing... PLease let me kno what you think!
Thanks

Same thing when you are at a stop, and let off the brake, your car will move very slowly. If it doesnt move at all, then you are either on a slight incline where the car holds in place, or you have sticking brake pads, or a problem with the tranny. But it will move slowly.
The dealer will tell you its nothing cause it is normal. your car is fine. My car does all the same things you just described. No need for you to waist the diagnostic charge at the dealer on this.

It is normal, pretty well all automatic cars will roll back (to some extent or another depending on the car) on a steep incline when in drive. I drive on some large hills on my way to work and see this all time.
IT'S NORMAL
Not just your car but WITH ALL CARS will roll back if you are in an incline level. My car roll back even when I park in my drive way. If you are still skeptic about it, then do a $75 diag. check with your stealership.

put a skateboard on a incline or hill, what do you think will happen? It will roll backwards, no not a foot, it will roll untill it hits level ground and come to a stop. Same thing with a car, if you are on a hill, whether in drive or reverse, the car will roll backwards because there isnt enough torque or power to make it go forward unless you hit the gas. You obviously seem like a new driver. Take your dads car out on a hill and put it in drive, IT WILL ROLL BACK. the dealership will tell anyone to bring there car in to make money. I work at one. I know how they operate.
Excuse me I'm not a new driver my boyfriend works on cars all the time! I did drive my dads car and it DIDNT do it. My car is under warrenty and it doesn't cost a thing. Don't tell me I'm obviously a new driver when thats not the case!

you obviously are a new driver, or otherwise you arent explaining this correctly to us.
You said when you are on a incline or hill and let off the brake, your car rolls back, NORMAL.
You said when you are at a stop sign and in drive and let off the brake your car moves really slowly less then a MPH, NORMAL.
You said when shifting from neutral to drive, you hardly feel anything, NORMAL.
What do you expect, do you want your tranny to grind from neutral to drive? Most people would rather not feel anything when shifting gears. Do you want your car to hall *** when you let off the brake? Then people all day would smash into other people.
No offense, and I mean no offense, but have your boyfriend teach you about how cars operate. If he works on cars or knows about them, he should be telling you the same thing, otherwise he needs to learn about how they operate too. I am not trying to be mean or be an *******, but your car is operating like normal. I am trying to save you from waisting your time by taking it to the dealer for 3 normal things that you say are problems.
I would understand if I was the only person that was saying it is normal, but read all the other responses, everyone else says its normal because it is. I drive a car everyday, I have an automatic, and my car rools on a incline, I dont feel anything shifting into drive from neutral, and my car barely moves when I let off the brake at a stop.
But if you want take it to the dealer. I just am telling you, you are waisting your time.
Thats funny because my dads car doesn't roll back. My boyfriends Scion tC doesn't roll back and my moms Zx2 doesn't rolly back. My dad drove my car who has worked on cars for YEARS and he said there is something wrong with it. So don't tell me I'm a new driver.

Ashleys: First off, the site is used to suggest to other people what WE think as our opinions and experiences. It's up to YOU to understand what is going on with your car. As you are a new member of this site, we welcome you. But if you search for other threads, you will see that many people here take their time to help one another. If your car is under warranty, GREAT. Good for you if they can replicate and note it that is in fact a problem. But if the car was manufactured like that and IT'S CONSIDERED NORMAL, then the dealer HAS the right to charge you for the time loss for diagnostic check. As you can see, we are here to help and suggest. YOU ARE THE OWNER, THEREFORE YOU MAKE THAT FINAL DECISION.

all cars will roll back no matter what gear they are in if the vehicle is on a steep incline or hill. dont tell me it wont because it will. you must be checking all these other cars on a level surface.
But go ahead and take it to the dealer if you feel you have a problem. I am hear to try and help you, but it is up to you.

civic auto has a very low idle and will roll back as a result. Other cars have higher idle, enough to keep the car going even up a hill. It all depends on the idle rpms. Ours is only around 700rpms, not enough to make the engine keep the car from rolling back. And I would think a smooth tranny is better than one that jerks into gear.
