Leaking Strut and Torn CV Boot
Well today at honda I had a mechanic look at my CV boot because CV joint grease was all over my wheels and stuff. He said the band was bad, but when we took it off, we saw a tiny tear caused by the band. We didn't have new boots in stock so we just put a new band over the tear and put more grease in as a temporary solution. Also on that side, my strut is leaking as well. I have neuspeed sport springs for almost 2 years and I guess I just got a bad strut. I think lowering the car also might have put more stress on the CV boots as well. Looks like new boots and struts are in store for the future. Anyone else heard of similar problems.

No I do believe that the side of the metal band wore into the boot and caused the tear. But in the case of the strut, can you buy them in pairs of 2 and which should i buy that are reasonably priced. thanks
just ride it until its worn out. mechanics that ive talked to do not change out CV boots, it takes too much time to change it out. they usually just buy you a new rebuilt one and slap it on.
for the mean time, just tape it up or something.....lol

It is much eaiser to replace the whole axle assembly then trying to replace a CV boot. Although the boot is alot cheaper (~$25 for the oem boot kit) than the whole axle (~$250 for the whole assembly), the time and mess dealing with the disassembly and assembly of the CV joint is not worth it in my opinion. With the new axle assembly, it is just a matter of remove and replace, no grease to deal with. I'm say this from experience replacing my CV boot on my Acura Legend last month. It was a pain.

Well I work at honda detailing cars. So labor charges is not a problem cuz its all under the table. I was looking at the axle and it did look like a pain to change out that one boot. Hopefully this new band will stop the grease from leaking for now.
We charge generally about $20 or so for the boot, and up to $120 labor.
For most axles, the axle runs about $110 and up to $80 labor. We use reman aftermarket axles (only from ARI). I could not tell you the last time we changed a cv boot on a car, much easier to replace the axle.
