Abs

i have a 02 civic ex four door and when i lock the brakes and the abs kicks in it makes a humming noise. and i was wondering if this is normal

Yes, it's normal. The hummmm is the brakes being pulsed very fast to keep from locking.
There is a hydraulic motor in the ABS block.

Try slamming on the brakes when you're going highway speed and that humming will turn into a horrible knocking sound. That's the sound of safety. Of course, if you're at a dead stop and you press the brakes all the way and it makes that noise, that may be a sign that something is off.
