WTF!! Bottom of car is dented/cracked and protrudes into car
as i was driving home today i just noticed my carpet was sitting up high like it was bumped up about 6-7" near the kick panel on the passenger side. i just assumed it was clumped. when i got home i pulled the carpet up and to my amazement i noticed a huge *** dent facing upwards coming fromt he bottom of the car. there is a pretty big gap in there too when you could see the ground below from and it looks like the sealant stuff around there is cracked too. there is also a peek hole plug thing and that popped off and wont go back on. i think this is from yesterday when i hit a huge *** bump by this bridge that has had this bump forever.
i was talkin to my dad and he said his friend has a similar incident with his rims where he hit a pothole and it cracked the rims and the city was forced to pay for it since it was their fault there was a pothole, do you think i could get the same thing cause this looks expensive to fix.
from a rough estimate, i would ahve to say it looks like they are gonna ahve to cut out the whole dented area and weld a piece of sheet metal in there then put sealant over it.
what should i do? i ahve never heard of anything happening like this before and i am kinda pissed. i am gonna go to honda tomorrow to see what they say and get an estimate to give the city if they are gonna pay for it.
here are a couple pics. they are from my camera phone and it was dark, so they are not very good. keep in mind this is by the passenger side kick panel.

Talk to the city first then get a lawyer (shop around) if the city gives you crap. You'd be amazed at what a letter from a lawyer can do--especially if the lawyer thinks s/he can get money out of the settlement.

Looks like the car was jacked up wrong, actually. A pothole won't do that. And if you drove over something heavy enough to do THAT, you'd have known it for sure.
forget about hoping for coverage. Every city has laws to prevent people to sue them that easily.
I agree that this looks like someone jacked it up wrong. A pothole will not do that unless you purposely ride over a huge boulder. I think you can rent a welding machine, sledge hammer and use a sheet of metal for DIY.

in ohio, they will pay you back. BUT:
1) the pothole must be reported to the city as a hazard by someone and then
2) they are liable if something happens at that hole 24 hours later and it isn't repaired
bottom line, if they aren't aware of the hole already, you're probably out of luck. and you don't know what hole it was, so again, i don't think that'll help

I just can't see how a pothole could have caused that. I mean, what could have happened, it pushed the wheel into the metal? Something tells me you'd be look at at least a tire if that was the case. Maybe someone was trying to jack up your car to steal your wheels but eff'd up and left. Especially since all your wheels/tires are intact I really doubt you're going to convince the city that this is their problem. Have you looked at it from underneath the car yet? That might provide some additional clues...
Just do what the one guy said and beat it out with a heavy hammer and have it welded by a professional. It'll be stronger than what it was before it got damaged and nobody will ever see it anyway so who cares. **** happens man dont worry about it.

The metal is thin anyway. It should be easy to hammer back into place.
I've done the same thing on an older car I had. Was lifted wrong.
20 minutes of tapping and it was smooth again. It's not like you are trying to fix a fender.... neatness does not count under the floor.
