Tranny problem (auto)

On the highway I had to pass someone, so I mashed the throttle.

It sounded like the transmission slipped then snagged making a thunk noise.

I went from 3rd to 1st gear I believe.

Now I realize this is not a good thing to do all the time but go from such a high gear to a low gear will cause a thunk, right?

Yeah, it even says in the manual that the tranny may shift 1 or 2 gears down if you press the gas. Just don't make it a habit. Also change tranny fluid every 15k miles if you want it to last.
