The Continual Struggle of a Man and His Leaking Trunk
The Continual Struggle of a Man and His Leaking Trunk
I posted a while back about this trunk leak I have. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting it, I even called the dealership and made an appointment to let them check it out. Finally, one day before my appointment, I found out that a significant amount of water was making it through the foam-rubber seal on my passenger side tail light.
I took it off, sealed the edge of the gasket that touches the light with some Liquid Nails silicone weather sealant, and put that puppy to bed, as they say. So far, that side of the trunk has been bone dry.
Just my luck, I get more water in there. Not nearly as much as before, but still enough to make a small puddle and **** me off. So, out came the garden hose for more investigation. I sprayed the back end of the car vigorously, opening the trunk after every few minutes to see if there was any water in there.
I found it puddling up behind the carpet on the driver's side, and it seemed to be dripping down from above. Unfortunately, as those of you who have screwed around in their trunks for long enough can attest, there are two layers of sheet metal up in there. Although there are holes in the inside layer, it is really, really hard to see up to where the water must be coming in.
So I took a shot in the dark and ran a bead of caulk along the entire driver's side of the back window and down into the groove beside the trunk seal itself.
I swear, if it still leaks after this, I'm going to dip my whole car in silicone!

i noticed a little puddle in my trunk today. the area under my left rear speaker was wet but the spare tire well was dry.
did you ever figure out where the water was coming from?
there's a notorious honda trunk leak problem but i dont think mine has it since my spare tire well is still dry

okay, i posted in another thread bout the fix for this but its really pretty easy.. My car was what american honda used to trouble shoot this and this fix should be in the computer... Basically, its your fuel filler flashing leaking, this is the black plastic flange. So pop open the trunk, then find the top of the trunk, on the left side, stick you hand in and you will feel the top of the plastic, get some silicone and silicone that and you can also do it on the outside just do a clean job... do that correctly and i promise you wont have any more water in your trunk...
Actually, the water is coming from way up above that area. The problem is that there are a couple of layers of thin metal in the trunk roof area there (under the rear deck, if that helps). I can't tell exactly where the water is coming from because I can't see up inside there, but I suspect it's the rear window edge gasket. I can stick my finger through the hole and feel the water inside, but I don't know where it's coming from! I'm about to give up and let someone else fix it.
I will try to post pictures later.

i'll go take a look. so far i haven't noticed any puddles so it's not really urgent yet.
btw, howcome there's no TSB onthis problem? i checked All Data, and Mitchell 1 but there's no TSB about water leaks coming from some fuel filler flashing. there's one trunk leak TSB but it refers to the seams where the trunk joins the body of the car...
