I think my tranny is having problems. Sometimes when I shift into 2nd gear it pops out. WTF is going on. It rarely happens but it scares me a lot. Anyone have any idea what the problem may be. I'm taking it to Honda on Monday.

I will put as much as stock parts back as possible. Before I had some problem with my light they were bithing about my aftermarket stuff and won't fix it under warrenty. End up paying $300 to fix at a shop.

Ok, i'm just worried that if I don't get it fixed soon it will really mess up my transmission. I heard some dealership stories consisting of voiding the warranty. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Thanks a lot for the info, I appreciate it. I'm sure glad I found this site.

And yes you would have to pay if you have no warranty.

2001 ... i have a warranty from the car place i got it from ... and its limited yes ... just wondering if that would cover it ... i'll make some calls ... would the factory warranty (if any left) apply to me?
Thanks
btw does this damage the tranny?

Yes the factory warranty will cover it, it's transferable through owners. Like I said before, my girlfriend had her's rebuilt from honda and her car is a used 2001, bought this year. You just have to make sure you still have warranty left. 4 year/ 100,000 km over here in Ontario. Yes this will damage your tranny everytime it pops/grinds out of gear. The gear teeth are sharp, everytime they pop out they get rounded.

I had a 2K1 with 28K on the odometer when it started popping out of second gear. After a while it started popping out of 5th too. TOok it to the dealer and shift cables need to be replaced. It was covered under warranty. It did take about 6 weeks to get the cables in so be prepared for a wait

go in far enough so that you *think* it's in gear, when it's really only partially engaged. I have a similar problem with 2&3 in that it's easy to get a partial engagement. Sometimes when you shift into 2 or 3 you need to apply a little more pressure to make sure it engages the rest of the way (almost like a dual engagement). As a result, shifting into 2nd&3rd is not a standard movement. You need to give it a little more umph after the initial engagement to make sure you get it fully engaged. Bottom line is that you can't have a clean, standard movement for shifting the car or it will pop out of gear on you at times. Generally, it's a smooth tranny, but it can behave in a very rude manner at times. Our '95 did this too. I had hoped that they would have fixed it over the past decade, but, they didn't.
Has anyone figured out how to down shift into first while the car is moving? This is the most anoying tranny quirk. You approach a red light, you're slowing down to 5mph or less, the light turns green, and you want to down shift into first and go. I don't think God could shift my car into first without coming to a full stop. The shifter just won't budge when moving it towards first.

^^^ Jeez.... rev-match the engine and pop it in first. If you know how much to tap the gas when you shift it'll slide right in. Takes a bit of practice.

of 2nd into neutral, release clutch, depress clutch, rev match, try to move shifter
into first, won't budge, curse). I know the tranny will last forever (although my
'95 had a throwout bearing seize at 70K making for one very challenging drive home); one just has to live with it's downright quirky behavior.
I have a 02 with 8,380 miles on it. Transmission went to ****, so did the piston rings, and so did the clutch. I got it back yesterday after 2 weeks. Not a penny out of my pocket. I got an extended warranty too. Im covered till 100,000 miles
