Tranny Problem in Reverse

I have a 2003 Civic EX Coupe AT it has about 10,000 miles on it. I notice when I start it up in the morning to back it out of the garage it Jerks and shifts hard into reverse hard enough you can hear it. I didn't notice this until about 3,000 miles ago but it just went in for it's 10,000 mile checkup and they said every thing was good. Does anyone know what this might be?

Change the fluid. It will help for sure, but make sure it's Honda atf. Very easy and just requires loosening a drain bolt.

Speaking of refilling an automatic... how much ATF will I need? I'm just over the 30,000 mile mark.

Depends on if you jack the car up and it's level, or if you drive up on ramps...for instance, if it's level on jack stands, something like 2.9 qts comes out...if you drive up on ramps, like I do, I only get 2qts and 12 oz out...you are best off measuring how much comes out, but you will only need to buy 3 qts at most...

Note: if you are changing the ATF yourself NEVER EVER over fill (not even an ouce) or you will get transmission problems.

What will happen if i overfill?

Short answer: The transmision will start to get bubbles inside the transmission and housing. This will lead to tranny failure and you cannot just "flush" out the bubbles by adding more fluid in and expect it to come out of the drain bolt.

Thanks for the tip. I don't need any unnecessary grief.
