burning smell and im being charged??

ok so i took my civic to the dealer today to check out some problems:

wet rear carpet

rattling window

loose driver seat

burnt rubber smell

now the guy calls me back and tells me all is fixed but im being charged $42.00 because the burning rubber smell could have been because of my aftermarket wheels, painted calipers, and aftermarket exhaust.

NOTHING was replaced or fixed. im being charged to pay the mechanic to look simply look for the burning rubber smell, which they DIDNT FIND!

im just wondering if i really should be charged 42 dollers to look at a problem that they didnt find or fix.

please help me guys im lost i only have till 8

Tell them you're not paying them a dime because they did nothing.

Then ask them why it costed $42?

Then tell them that they should have called you before doing anything that costed money because under their way of thinking, they could have thought that anything needed to be looked at or repaired, gone ahead and repaired it, and then charged you out the *** for it.

The dealership at my house installed an OEM keyless right before I drove it off the lot. Then 3 months later after I laid wire behind my center console (on the floor) for my neons, I found out my cig lighter didn't work. Well i KNEW that they were the ones that disconnected it and they said it'd be $100 just to take apart the console to look at it. They said if it were disconnected that because the neon wire was back there, they would not refund me the $100 to take apart the console. So basically because the neon wire was back there, they would charge me $100 if anything was amiss back there. Well DUH. The 12V didn't work so of COURSE something was wrong. Stupid *****. Basically they put the blame on me how convenient. I was like *** that. I don't need my 12V that bad. 7thgencivic.com DIYs pwn all!

yea man i didnt think i should be charged because first of all they didnt do anything. no part was replaced or fixed. i guess they took one look at the car and blamed it on caliper painting.

i dont know about you but im pretty sure caliper spray paint does not smell like burning rubber when it is well..... burning.

i have untill 8 to pick up my car soo CAN MORE PPL GIVE ME INPUT ON THIS PROBLEM. i only have 4 hrs till i have to argue with them.

Is it still under warranty or not? if so, then there should be no diagnostic fee, especially if they cannot locate the problem sufficiently to be able to correct it (which they would say would be at your cost).

of course, either way, they should have told you up front whether or not there would be a fee for diagnostics on the vehicle and would have to have your signature FIRST before they can charge you.

any more info might help...

They should only work according to the work order that they've printed for you. Any additional findings should have consulted with you before work can begin. Ripping customer off is just plain asking for trouble from the Better Bureau of Business.

well when they gave me a print out that showed all my info and problems i reported about my car she gave me a 40-80 doller estimate. then i had to sign the paper.

should i still have to pay? like i said, no problem was found, nothin was fixed or replaced, and they blamed it on caliper paint, body kit and wheels.

did they find the source of the problem? If so, then you should be charged as they provided a service to you. If they didnt find the source, then I would protest the charge.

Well...you could check this link...

http://www.atg.wa.gov/consumer/cars/autorepr.shtml

Be calm and don't argue. State the obvious to the Service Manager. You are paying for a service that the shop did not perform.

ok well this is what happened. i went there around 6 to pick up the car. i talked to them and they basically have ppl working that dont know what theyre talking about. soo i had to pay them the 42 bucks to get my car and i have to come back tomorow to talk to the guy about it.

one guy i talked to said that by removing my wheel and finding nothing wrong isnt covered by warantee. it is a maintance charge just like if i got my wheels rotated. WOW soo close to knockin this **** on his ***.

even the cashier lady laughed when she read the paper describing the whole deal.

this is what the paper says exactily:

J# 1 23HOZ brake system hours: tech(s): 139
customer states burnt rubber smell, driver side wheel
checked on concern: found front break calipers are painted blue, found non honda muffler is hitting/melting rear bumper cover, non honda wheels/exhaust/lower valance kit. no other fault was found at this time--- advised customer to have installers check their products.
job # 2 total parts and labor $40.00

tax 2.40

i am going there first thing in the morning to make them my bitch.
oh and i had a feeling that i was gonna get screwed over today. so i placed a piece of electic tape on the lug nut key. when i got the car back the key was in the exact same spot in the car, facing the same way. and the black electical tape was still intact.... hmmmmmmmmmmm shady? ohh yes!

ok went back to the dealer today and the guy was an ***. he was the service manager name is tony. he was rude the entire time and was yelling.

basically he says that the mechanic put my car on the lift, took off my wheel and found nothing wrong. he blames the smell on my caliper paint,my bumper and exhaust.

he said that im being charged because MAINTINANCE ISNT COVERED BY WARANTEE! WTF! there is no maintinace since NOTHING WAS CHANGED!

he basically treated me like a child. they ordered me parts for the rocking driver seat fix. i told him to **** himself because im not coming back to have them install it when it arrives.

afterwards i went to main line honda and the guys there are gonna take a look at it next saturday and also order and install the seat parts for me.

BBB will hear about wright honda and their disrespectful staff.

Don't even get me started. At least they didn't spill gas on your back seat and pretend like nothing happened. Dealers will do anything to get out of doing warranty work because it costs them money to pay the mechanics. If you have an intake or any other aftermarket part, that will be the cause of everything that happens to the car.

I get that burnt rubber smell too after driving in the rain or just driving a long period of time. About being charged for having someone tell you your painted calipers are causing that burnt rubber smell and having someone take off your tire, which probably only took them a minute or two to do is bull ****. "i told him to **** himself because im not coming back to have them install it when it arrives." Haha good one.

Check your tire pressure...if it's low you'll get a burning rubber smell.

dude, i just got back from the dealer service and they told me i had to pay 1675 dollars to fix a bunch of **** on my car. Guy told me the caliper paint is killing my break pads ( i painted them yesterday), resurface rotors and a lot of other crap. These *******s get commission and think they could rip everyone off. I dont know, but i wish we can all do something instead of just complaining. If we can figure out a way to get these people to not get paid for their sales would be a possible solution.

well to be honest I heard that the dealers dont mind doing warranty repairs because they get paid back for parts and labour by Honda Canada or Honda America depending where you are. Ive had a few things done under warranty and they had no problem at all fixing them. For my rear shocks, THEY insisted on repalcing them even though they weren't even blown yet. So I dont know, maybe it just depends on the dealer

not sure how exactly it works under a warrenty service, but in the computer and other repair industries you are always charged a basic "service" fee for taking the time to examine a problem. Whether they fix something or not, time is money and the time they spent getting your car on the lifts and examining it, could be spent fixing another car.

HAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!! That's a good one..... The cliper paint is killing the brake pads.....
I have to write this one down.
It's just amazing what these crooks will try to tell you to "fix" your car.

Oh, btw, my air freshener clogged my pollen filters in my car, causing the AC to work too hard. $2000 repair bill.......

Oh man....

the way that honda charges to look at peoples car is rediculous. I asked honda yesterday how much they would charge to see what is wrong with my driver side door lock, she told me $89.95. WTF.

most dealers dont like working with modifed cars, shouldnt be suprising that youll get treated like dirt if you bring one in.
