Question Alternator/Charge Light Blinking

Hi!

My girlfriend's 2003 Civic has a blinking alternator light in the gauge cluster. Anyone knows what this means? If it was steady, I'd suspect either a bad alternator or battery, but blinking???

Tnx!

Manual talks about a steady light - which would indicate an alternator failure, but nothing about a blinking light....

Ok, found it...

It seems that for (at least) Canadian 2003 models, the alternator light blinks when the alternator is not doing its job... I measured the voltage at the battery, and with the engine running at 3000 rpm, I still get 12.2 volts - exactly the same as at idle...

Oh well, warranty work for the dealer, with only 26k on the LX... this is deceiving!

Wait ... you're talking about the battery light, right? That's why I was kinda confused when you said "alternator" light. I couldn't find any reference to an "alternator" light in my manual. (What does it look like?)

If it's the battery light that stays on, then the battery is not being charged properly. Nothing in the manual says anything about a blinking battery light.

check alternator fuse. i went through this crap for two weeks trying to figure it out, new batteries and new alternators did nothing. my speed sensor blew, and it kept blowing the alternator fuse, which made my battery die. so you might wanna unplug the speed sensor, change the fuse.. and if the battery light goes off, it's the speed sensor. just an idea..
