Angry Chug a Chuggin

ok where to start. first of all about 3 weeks ago i went out to my car to go to work and low and behold it wouldnt start. so once i finally had time to get around to fixing it i opened up the cap to see y i had no spark and the coil and the rotor were missing. i replaced them and my car started up fine. now for some reason when my car warms up and i go to give it full throtle it totally bogs down and does this little chuggin noise like it doesnt wanna go. the only after market part i have is cold air intake. oh and its a 98 civic ex. if u could help me out that would be outstanding. thanks alot

Could be a TPS sensor. IMO its like an ignition issue, I doubt its anything with timing. Dunno take it to a mechanic and get it checked out.

ya i dont think timing is the problem if it only happends once the motor is warmed up fairly well. i was thinking that maybe because it sat without starting for 3 weeks that maybe its just clogged injectors or something along with that. maybe that sounds dumb but u could give me an idea as to if thats a good one.

I think it's an ignition issue as well.

Check your plug wires with a good ohm meter, check them when cold and then again when they have been warmed under the hood. If there is more than twice the resistance when they are warm, there is your problem. Either that or if you have one or more that have a ton more resistance than the other(s).

Running a tank of fuel system cleaner followed or preceeded by a tank with a bottle of rubbing alcohol in it wouldn't hurt either. (The rubbing alcohol chemicaly binds with any water in the fuel system allowing it to flow with the fuel towards combusting and explusion from the system)

If you've go water in your fuel system, that can cause it to chug around and make quite a bit less power. Alcohol is an easy way to remove any water or moisture and is cheap.

yup, would remove out out of there, but in my experience, if water gets lodged in your filter it can cause all kinds of issues. And water in a fuel system creates all manner of screwy issues that one would not usually be able to put their finger on as being water. Heck, just try it, it will cost you $.99 + tax and isn't gonna hurt anything. If you think it might hurt something, only put half the bottle in.

Please note that I'm just throwing out suggestions. One of them may be it or it might not be. If you'd like me to stop suggesting things, lemme know.

If you know anyone with a shop manual, you could test all your electronics and figure it out.

Cool, lemme know how it goes. I'll keep popping suggestions as I think of more stuff to fiddle with. You can know a ton about an engine and it's the little picky crap that will stump you. My dad's an old-school mechanic and I grew up elbow-deep in grease. It's amazing how much an old timer can teach you about your "new technology" from spending 20 years tearning apart "old" cars.

This also factors in to why most of my fix-it posts have "shop manual" in there somewhere. The first rule of fixing cars is RTFM.

g/l and keep us posted!
