Chugging in idle, rattle while acceleration.

Hi, so I'm new here and I've been checking out a couple of threads regarding this but haven't come across my specific situation, so would be great to get some opinions on this :

- At idle, when AC is on, car has a chugging sound coming from passenger side of vehicle. AC turned off - No sound.

- When accelerating between 2k-3k RPM, chugging sound completely dissapears, but a rattling sound from the passenger side is heard.

- When accelerating between 2k-3K RPM with AC off, the rattling sound is still heard from the passenger side.

I used to think it was detonation or carbon buildup in my engine before I found out about the AC, so I've been using 93 octane gas.

Btw some more info about the car :

- 2003 Honda LX.
- 138,000 Miles.
- Oil/filter recently changed.
- Everything stock, but the sound system [ doesn't matter, does it?].

Thanks in advance!

Re: Chugging in idle, rattle while acceleration.

buy a belt that will bypass your a/c compressor and install it.....so instead of the belt turning your a/c and alt, get a belt that only turns the alt....drive the vehicle for a week or so and see if the noise goes away....if it does, your a/c compressor is shot/bearings/pulley

Re: Chugging in idle, rattle while acceleration.

There is a lot of stuff going on when the AC operates, and it takes a bit of both engine power and electrical power to run it all.
Radiator fans run on full blast, and the compressor itself makes a lot of noise.

Is yours unusually noisy? Find another car like yours and check that one out to see.

Passenger side of the car? See if maybe one of the radiator fans is hitting something as it spins, or is not operating correctly.
Also look for loose heat shields on the exhaust.

Get it making noise, and start hunting.
How would a blind person locate the source of a noise?
