struts blown at 20k miles
struts blown at 20k miles
i went to honda about a pounding noise when i turn my steering wheel and they said that my struts were blown, both of them in the front. i only have 20k miles, they replaced them under warantee, but im just wondering, would a neuspeed strut bar maybe make the struts blow out faster or what, cause im just thinking that was kinda quick even though i kinda do drive hard but 20k miles??? im now hesitant about putting my strut bar back on...i know its a noob question...and also does anybody hear a creaking noise when they release the clutch slow becuase of the fipk II heat shield rubbing against the body of the car? thanks
i don't think the strut bar would have anything to do with the struts blowing out. i'm not familiar with the fipk and heat shield. alot of 7thgen struts are going early though, i've seen alot being replaced in my service department. at least you are still in your 3yr/36k. so, looks like you have 20,000 miles to look for some coilovers...
Squeaking in clutch linkages is pretty much the norm as the car gets older. My old Toyota truck squeaked from 125,000 miles to 475,000 miles and never broke anything.
As far as the struts are concerned, factory struts suck if you're driving hard and are only marginally better if you're driving like gramps. Put a set of Koni's on it. Lifetime warranties rock.

i work at a honda dealer... believe it or not, we do more front and rear strut replacements on MKVII civics than any other warrenty repair. we get cars coming in looking like they are SLAMMED and and old woman climbs out... our stock struts are utter ****. get TEIN, JIC, H&R or Bilstein. they are bar far the better companies.
As far as what ive been able to tell this **** happens one more good thing about your 2001 civic...yay mine did it at about 28k and i replaced them with Koni Yellows an excellent choice indeed i love em but youll end up paying a bit i got mine when they first came out and they were 1000 a set just shocks youll kinda have to fabricate your own strut not too hard just pull the shock from the old one and make em fit thats what i did and they have rode beautifully ever since
Yo the same thing happened to me on my lx auto right around the same time, b4 i put the 17's on. Honda replaced them, but its still weird as all hell. Hey now i know im not the only one. Makes me feel comforted, i dont know.
JK: All this stock stuff breaking on the civic's makes me wonder how they can have a sticker price around 18, i got out the door at 13 and i still dont feel i got what i paid for.
P.S> Did anyone get the RECALL letter????

My struts got replaced six times. Honda sent me a letter apologizing and the gave me a $100 gift certificate. Now I lowered my car and I need them replaced again and I don't think they will cover it anymore
