Burning smell

Hey guys. I was very briefly redlining my 03 LX and then after like 10 minutes of mild driving I parked the car and there was this strong BBQ smell coming from the front of my car. Could be the brakes but then I didnt really brake that hard and the smell was really strong coming out from the grill. I drove back home and the smell did not come out anymore. Have you guys experience this before? Should I take the car back to the dealer to check it out? Thanks for your inputs.

It's not pushing your engine that's the problem. It's pushing your auto tranny that's the problem.

You were shifting from D1-D2-D3... etc. right?

I pulled the lever from D to D3, made a right turn at about 20 mph, then floored it to 65 mph on the straight, then ease off the gas and put the lever back to D. My car has 10k miles on it.

Bah, I'd not worry about it yet. Just don't manually shift it much and you'll be O.K.

With only 10k miles on it, and given what you were doing to it, I'd say it's normal. All new cars smell a little funky after they are flogged.

If you want to be extra-safe about it, warm it up and pull the tranny dipstick, smell it; If it smells like BBQ, change your fluid.

The leading killer of auto trannies is fluid breakdown, the hotter the tranny gets the faster the fluid breaks down, the faster the fluid breaks down the faster the tranny wears out.

If you're gonna go nuts with it, get a tranny fluid cooler.

If all cars came with properly sized automatic transmission fluid coolers, broken transmissions would be a thing of the past.

Or we could all pick up some steaks and make it a cook-out.
Mmmm... steak.

You should check under your hood. It's possible that some hungry **** without a BBQ grill just threw some ribs on your ride so you could cook them for him. Maybe it was that homeless guy named Joe that lives around the corner. Just an idea.

You know the USDA has gotten their paws on your car when you exert it for a bit and it smells like BBQ to drag you down to the local BBQ place.

WHY WOULD YOU BUY AN AUTO TO PRETEND YOU HAVE MANUAL?
makes no sense to me but just so you know i dont think pretend shifting is covered under warranty if that makes you break your tranny

I don't get it. What is so wrong about downshifting to D3 when I am doing hard braking? Honda auto tranny would downshift itself during hard braking anyway, and it would do the same thing when going uphill or when more power is needed. I don't neutral drop it or anything. Anyway, I am not touching the shifter anymore just to be safe.
