Advice needed
Hi Civic fans,
I am a new member (this is my first posting). I own a 2002 Civic (4 door). I'm quite happy with the car except for a few minor issues:
1. The engine sounds like a diesel, especially when I start it in the morning. For some reason, I get the feeling that the engine isn't as smooth revving/flowing as it should be. I have only done 9,000 miles in the car in 2 years, so it is rather sparingly used.
2. The first time I apply the brakes in the morning, I get a clunk sound. Mind you, this only happens the first time I hit the brakes (when I start out).
I hope someone on the boards can give me technical details as to what could be the problem (in plain English, please, lol).
Peace,
btwracing

My advice would be to bring it in to Honda and have them look at it since its under warranty. If they dont find anything at least its been logged.
The rear drum brakes are self adjusting when you reversing and braking. After a few times of doing that they should be adjusted. If your getting a clunk all the time it could be the pads shifting.

That clunk sound (more like a "click" on mine) is the front brake pads seating themselves, when you start driving forward after reversing. It's normal.
As for your diesel sounding engine, take it to your dealer... although I have a feeling they're going to say they can't find anything wrong with it.
Make sure you're still changing your oil regularly even with that low mileage. And air the engine out at highway speeds every once in a while. All that low-speed city driving is tough on the engine.

Ronin makes some good points. Other things to try are ground wires under the hood. I even have a voltage regulator and my car idles pretty smoothly. Although, the cold weather usually results in rough idle. Once you warm up the car, it should become quieter.
I have the 2001 Ex had the same problem with the click sound when you apply brake. i know its in the front. i brung it to the dealer and told them the problem, and you all should know what they say" we can't find the problem." They told me they tighten my shocks for me and when i drove out the click was gone. Well the clicks came back after 6 months of driving. Dealers f**k them when you have warranty they can't find the problem. When you have to pay they find a whole **** load of things to fix. So anyone know how to fix the problem, i know its not the shocks, it could be brakes?
