Tranny is completely gone...

My Tranny is completely gone. It was slipping last week, and today, it wont even shift into first gear. I gas it, and it just revvs for days. It DOES go in reverse, but that's about it. I checked everything i could under the hood, but i dont know what else to do. Got 60k on it, so no warranty can save me here, and i dont wanna take it to Honda so they can jack me 1000 bucks to tell me its gone, any REALISITIC suggestions? Could it be anything elese?

Best sugestion, get a good used one from a writeoff. Sounds like the clutches are gone.

Try getting into 5th gear.

Also, if you can, check the linkages from the stick to the tranny.

mine went out to when I had like 20,000-30,000 miles on it...it wouldn't go into any gear...felt like the gears weren't even there...got it towed to Honda and that didn't know what really was the problem...luckily it was under warranty and they gave me a rental car from Enterprise for like two weeks...got a brand new tranny and saved $2,000+ (tranny)...when I got my new tranny, the gears felt a lot stiffer...don't know what caused the problem..I can drive a stick...hell this is my 3rd one.

Isn't Green Demon an automatic? Or am I the only one here that can't read? One thing is certain, the new auto's are not remotely as good as the old ones. My 82 laste 152,000 miles and is still running today. (I gave the car to a friend when I bought the 02 EX)

I think he is auto. Try this:
www.car-parts.com

You could take it to honda so they could plug it into their machine and identify the problem. You dont have to have them fix it. When you identify the problem, take it to a transmission shop for the work. Honda will give you a warrenty, I think, if they repair it.

Damn, 2 trannys? I wanna get this one up and running, but i'm gonna sell it for sure before something else happens to it. But manual swap is outta the question.

BTW what do you consider to be better, rebuilding my tranny for buying a used tranny (20k or less) for like $600-750?

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin, basically a notice or piece of info that the dealer is informed with by the maker.

If your going to sell it anyway, just go with the cheapest solution possible. Hopefully it'll work out to be a reliable tranny for the purchaser.

He said a manual swap is out of the question. I think he doesnt want a manual.

Green- I think it is a $60 fee to hook it up to the computer, if the computer can tell them whats wrong. I might be wrong. You could go talk to the service people and they may know the problem. If you found a tsb, bring it up to the service repair men and they most likely will honor it, if they feel you meet the qualifications. You may be better off with getting a rebuild, if you cant get honda to work, because the used could do the samething your old one did. Good luck with the choice.

Heres a little something to help you with your troubles:

Yup, i need my tranny rebuilt for sure, its been confirmed. Instead of rebuilding it, im gonna buy a used one that's already been rebuilt and swap it in. they want too much $$ to rebuild it and put it back in.
