Battery Issues...
Battery Issues...
Hey I am having some kind of charging issue and was wondering if anyone knew why... its an 01 ex, with stock battery. the cables are good, no corrosion or anything. Anyway, i added an aftermarket cd player and system, and an underlite kit. everything worked fine till a few days ago. it had been getting harder and harder to start the car, now i have to jump it off to go anywhere. Is it the battery, alternator or some other part of the electrical chain? im fixing to get a new battery, a optima yellow top one, but will that fix it? thanx!

Probably. The stock battery is pretty weak. When mine dies, I'll get an optima as well. I bought one for my truck, best money spent hands down.

when you drive around and you step on the brakes at night, does all your stuff dim out on your dash? does you car want to die out when you've already started it? if it does then your alternator is fried probably from your system and stuff.
if you dont experience any of these problems and you could drive around ok after the car is jumped, its probably your battery.

when ive got the ac on and radio turned up, when stopped at a red light everything dims, but when i hit gas everything brightens up, the system isnt big, only like 150~200 watts, and i know the underlites arnt much power.
the optima battery will solve everything. you will have to bend the thin metal bar that connects to the battery tie down to make it fit. don't do the alternator, its a waste. you'll see tomorrow or whenever you put the new battery in. good luck.

If you really want to know what your problem is, without guessing, then you need to find out how much amperage you're drawing with all your assesories on. If the amount of amps being drawn is higher than the alternator is rated, then you need to beef up the alternator. If the alternator is fine then I'd say your battery is going out or you have bad connections. Any good shop can check this out for you very easily, and it won't cost much money.
You can go the wrong route and put a higher amp battery in it, and it will "seem" your problem is cured, but, your alternators internal regulator is going to be running wide open trying to re-charge your battery. Then after a few months you most likely will have to replace the alternator.

Hey yall just wanted to say thanks for helping me, when i ordered my new batt i had them check the batt and alt and they said it was the batt, it had gone bad. it was the stock one, i dont really know how long batts last but i guess all the new elec i was hooking to it killed it.

The stock battery is just barely enough for the car as it is. And even at that, you would be lucky if it lasted more than 3 years. The optima is made totally different, and has an enormous power reserve. Our cars can only benefit from them.
The stock battery in my 98 lasted 54,000 miles - did something change with Honda stock batteries? I have an aftermarket deck and speakers, no amps.
I also have a 2k1 coupe with a full aftermarket stereo installation (July 03) and haven't noticed anything wrong with the stock battery. I am using a 1 farad cap - maybe that's helping offset any weakness in the battery.

Batteries generally last a few years. But even then, there are a few that are flawed and die a swift or sudden death. You just never know. I doubt it's honda's fault, it happens on any car/model.

I'd say its your battery.... I had the same exact problem and finally after getting fed up with the damn factory battery I bought an optima red top and also added a 1 farad capacitor and have had no power problems anymore..
