My speedometer jumped by 25mph
The 26th I took it to a car wash then drove home without looking at my speedometer. That night I head out to a party and it says Im going 70mph when Im actually with traffic and like 45mph. I noticed this while I was driving so at the next red light I stopped and the needle rested at 25mph. So, I hit up the party and when I drive home the needle is now resting at approx 22mph. The next morning I go to drive to Thanksgiving football and its now sitting at 20mph. Its slowing going back down and as of this morning its at 10mph.
Has this happened to anyone else? Could it have been something at the carwash? (it was one of those with the track that rolls the car thru)
Where is the sensor for the speedometer? and is it be easily accessible?
Thanx

Did you mod your cluster? Maybe the needles are sticking.
Try this:
1. Push and hold the trip/reset button.
2. Turn the lighting switch on.
3. Turn the ignition switch on.
4. Within 5 seconds, turn the lighting switch OFF, then ON and OFF again.
5. Within 5 seconds, release the trip/reset button, then push and release the button 4 times repeatedly.
This starts the Gauge cluster self diagnostics.
The beeper will sound, the lights will flash, the LCD will flash, and most importantly, the needles will sweep all the way back and forth. If they/one does NOT sweep properly, replace the cluster.
To exit diagnostics, turn off the ignition.
Hope this helps. If you don't get it the first time, try again. Timing is important here.
Good luck.

BTW, I just went outside to actually try this.... It works! Kinda cool. All 4 needles sweep smoothly up and back down. To repeat, just push the trip/reset button again. Nice feature. Now I can pretend I'm going 140! LOL

It works. Tried it with an RSX also. Same sequence.
Remember, you have to push and keep holding the trip button until step 5.
Works everytime. Have to do all of this within 5 seconds after turning on the ignition.
Turn on the the lights to the FIRST click, BTW. Not to headlights.
Pretty cool diagnostic.

Ahhh, that's the problem I was looking for.
I've had the same problem happen twice, except it effects both the tachometer and speedometer. The tach adds 3,000 rpm and the speedo adds about 25 mph. After I power cycle the car 3 or 4 times it goes back to normal but it is still disconcerting.
I'm assuming its just a bizzare computer thing since power cycling fixes it . . . pulling the fuse for the computer to reset has no effect.
Anyone else with this problem, or a solution, please post.
I have a 2001 EX Manual Sedan with 40k miles on it.

Did you check the ground cables around your intake? I think there's one around there that can affect the gauges. Been a while, but I swear I read that in a thread here before. Some small ground wire somewhere back there. A bit late for this post, but it may help someone else out.

Hate to bring up an old topic
but does it work on Canadian models too? since we have the day time running lights and all. But im guessing that dosn't have anything to do with it.Havn't got a chance to try this yet but when you mean turn the ignition on do you mean to III? or do you mean start the car?
