massive recalls from honda...

this must be a first or something:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...s/honda_recall

how can this cause such a problem? being able to remove the key from the ignition without being in park? who tries to remove there key without being in park?
just thought i'd give the heads up.

this is the passage that bothers me the most:
"The National Highway Safety Administration said Monday it has records of four injuries, 28 crashes and 169 complaints about the defect, which is caused by excessive wear in the ignition switch. In many cases, drivers assumed their vehicles were in park because they were able to remove the key. In at least one case, a rolling SUV caused a multi-vehicle accident. "

how does this defect cause the above? accidents?

Pretty much every Ford product I've ever driven has this problem. Hell, my 96 Aerostar van at work not only features removable keys, but it starts without a key, and one time when I did use the key... it wouldn't turn off! Quality is Job 1!

Hehe, I did that a few times back on my 87 civic hatch. One time I did it, I got out to check the oil & when I leaned on the car with the hood up it started rolling back, I was like oh **** & naturally started pulling on the radiator. The thing was so light that I pulled it back a few feet into the parking space, it felt like pulling a go kart!!. I was like WTF how'd that happen?? Hehe, damn that car was cool!!

It's not that big of a deal I don't think. At least it isn't like my friends Tauras wagon where he doesn't even need the key to start the car Just like VTEC01EX's Aerostar

I Fukd up a Pontiac Aztek filling it up with gas, at work one time.

"What actually happened was that the person who had gotten in the vehicle before me had the seat all the way back. So instead of adjusting the seat I drove it to the gas pump. Well there's two yellow poles on each side of the pump to protect it. As I pulled up I was sitting all the way back toes barely on the brake pedal, put it in what I think is Park really Reverse leave the key's in (what a coincidence). Jump out with the door open. And it starts to roll back, I quickly use reach in and use my hand on the brake pedal and put it in park. The driver side door had been caught against the pole. And the door ended up unaligned and had to get sent to the body shop. And I didn't get fired. But for a while I was known as Aztek Alex .

Jeez.... how many cars have I driven without this feature. Oh, yeah, my truck will start without my foot on the clutch, too. Haven't killed anyone yet!

Pretty soon people can just switch off their brain when they get in the car.
I thought "DRIVING" was about being in control of the car.

Why do so many people need to be protected from themselves? Why???

Hehe, my dad used to have this broke *** fukked up van that someone gave him, it would start in gear & didnt even need a key! Well one day he let it run real low on gas & we hit this hill & it died. It wouldnt start, it would just sputter because the gas was at the back of the tank, so he got pissed & "started" it all the way up the hill & to the gas station on the corner!

One of the funniest things Ive ever witnessed.

If you can remove the key while your driving that could be a HUGE problem if the steering wheel locks and you can't steer the car while going down the road. I don't think most people would remove the key while driving but someone in the passenger seat like a kid or someone screwing around could.
