Anyone ever had a problem with wheel bearings going bad and having to replace them in the rear?

I had to replace my front one's when I did my suspension work. I was missing some bearings apparently... does this cause a 'knocking noise'?? I get this noise SOMETIMES (less now that I've replaced the bearings) when I do hard turns while moving SLOW... not at crusing speeds... it really happens when I do hard turns in a stopped position like maneuvering in and out of parking spaces and such.
