Second... if you let off the gas then you close the throttle, the pipe returns to ambient pressure since the throttle isn't open, there's just air sitting in it. When you open the throttle, it resumes the vacuum effect that sucks the air in. What you probably hear is the pressure changing. I can't say it sounds like backfire, it just sounds like a rush of air.... so maybe you messed up installing it. Or it's loose and it moves when the pressure changes. What kind is it? That would certainly help.

This is probably the most confusing thread I've read in a while.
So you hear a backfire noise? or a swooooshing noise when you step on the gas?

If you have back fire coming out of your intake then your cars timing is f**** or you screwed somthing up putting on the intake. I never heard of back fire from an intake though.
If you have a nice whistling sound that means you successfully installed your intake.

i get the same backfire every now and then also. i have a 2002 lx as well. i can't figure it out either. seriously it is a backfire. no ambient pressure or vaccum effects. and i know for a fact the install wasn't screwed up. it is pretty self-explanatory, so don't give me the crap about i don't know what i'm doing. any techs have input on this???
