Won't start, dead battery
Won't start, dead battery
Description of the Issue: I own a 2015 Honda Civic and recently started experiencing issues with the car not starting. Here is a detailed description of the problem:
Thank you!
- The car initially wouldn't start, but after receiving a boost, it started successfully.
- I was able to drive around without any issues and it started fine a few times after the boost.
- The car died again and wouldn't start and there was no power to accessories
- Realizing I still had the original manufacturer's battery from 2015, I decided to replace the battery.
- After replacing the battery, the car started fine the first time.
- I went for a 25-minute drive, turned off the car, left it for a few hours, and when I came back, it wouldn't start again.
- I've confirmed that all lights are off when the car is parked.
- There is nothing plugged into the cigarette lighter.
- I received no error messages or warnings prior to this issue and still have not received any.
- Replaced the original battery with a new one.
- Checked all connections from the alternator to the engine, and they appear to be fine.
- Is it possible that the alternator is causing this issue?
- Could it be a fuse or something else that I should check?
Thank you!
Re: Won't start, dead battery
Measure battery voltage with the engine running and headlights/fan on (this will make the alternator charge). If you're not seeing ~14V, the alternator may be bad.
Could also be a parasitic draw draining the battery while it's off.

Re: Won't start, dead battery
Thank you, I just ordered a multimeter so I will check that.
After not starting yesterday, it started again today even though I didn't do anything so now I'm really confused.

Re: Won't start, dead battery
That is odd. Makes me believe it's not battery related. What happens when it doesn't start? Dash has no signs of life? Headlights or interior lights on or off? No noises when attempting to start?
Re: Won't start, dead battery
Sometimes it is completely dead (no signs of life as you said) and sometimes there is enough juice for an attempted crank but after a few tries it's completely dead.
Re: Won't start, dead battery
So just an update on this.
After not starting with the new battery it started the next day without any problems. I checked with a multimeter and the voltage was good on the battery and there was no parasitic draw. I suspect it was a loose connection when installing the new battery that caused the no start.
