Civic 2011 Help! Location of Power door lock relay and wires [rodent chew wires]
Civic 2011 Help! Location of Power door lock relay and wires [rodent chew wires]
Guys
My civic 2011 started behaving weird after a rat attack on wires in the engine bay. I have fixed everything but one issue is totally driving me nuts.
The power door locks usually just lock automatically when the car his above 20mph while driving. But now it keeps locking continuously.
When I drive, when I don't drive, it doesn't matter. It will keep locking (or atleast make the lock sound when it's already locked).
Here's a video of it: https://youtube.com/shorts/zqkp6ENI0jo?feature=share
The mechanic said it's a faulty actuator so I replaced it but it still continues. I'm sure it's either the wires/relay/ground that is faulty. The problem is even the Honda service guys are saying they will replace the actuator and harness but I don't want the cost.
If someone can guide me where I can locate the relay and ground point on a stock Honda civic 8th Gen, I'm pretty darn confident it will be as easy as fixing a rusty ground or tightening any loose wires.
Few insights:
- it happens at very irregular intervals, unpredictable. Sometimes it's back to back, sometimes after every 5 mins.
- the only way to stop it from happening was to disconnect the battery. It was happening even without ignition or key, when the car is parked and I'm sleeping in my room.
- I have replaced the fuse for door lock actuator so that is out of question.
- the was a rat living under the hood for few days cutting wires and hoses and I strongly suspect it has done the same with the door lock harness.
- if it's not the wires then perhaps the relay has gone bad or the ground point has built rust due to high humidity here.
Please help

You can unplug the actuator for now to stop it trying to lock.
Unfortunately electrical can be a real pain, you're going to have to go over all the repaired wires and make sure they're done properly. And check all the door wiring. Sounds like a wire is shorting somewhere and activating the lock.

But do you know how I can go about checking for the short? I have located the harness coming from the door to the under dash area.

I can view the harness by detaching the door panel. Now only thing is to figure out how to check these wires. The wires to the speaker are wet and rusty so I'm guessing that one of the wires is triggering the lock function for the actuator when it isn't supposed to. Could this happen due to rust? Any ideas on how to check these wires would be much appreciated🙂

Pull the harness out of the door, pull all the wrap and loom off, and inspect each wire carefully for breaks in the insulation.
