2007 Civic, fuel problem

Hi,
I'm working on the neighbor's 2007 Civic.

Pretty sure I have a fuel problem.
Cranks but no start except will run briefly on starter fluid.
Don't hear the fuel pump when I turn the key on.

Fuel pump itself (unhooked) shows direct short from hot to ground.
I have a plan to test that an probably replace it.

Also, fuel pump relay doesn't seem to come on.
Relay replaced but still not activating. I see +12 on relay activation pin
but "ground" pin doesn't seem to be grounded? Is there some
other device or fuse on the ground side of the fuel pump relay?

My plan for now is to try the fuel pump with external 12 volt power to see
if it is sincerely dead (which I think it is). But no idea about the fuel relay ground issue.

Thanks! (And my neighbor will be happy !)

8th gen Civic service manual available at the link below:

And here's a link to the section for fuel pump circuit troubleshooting:

Re: 2007 Civic, fuel problem

Thanks!

It looks like I need to find this inertia switch thing.
I have the lower dash panel off to get to the fuel pump relay.

I am having no luck finding the inertia switch. Do I need to take more dash apart?

Re: 2007 Civic, fuel problem

Assuming you got a 'NO' on step 10, then went to step 11? That is only for KE, KG, TR models, all of which are for overseas as far as I can tell. Instead, I think you should be doing the following:
  • Replace the No. 2 FUEL PUMP (15 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay.
  • Replace the under-dash fuse/relay.

Re: 2007 Civic, fuel problem

Thanks for that pointer.

The fuse is good.

I must have taken a wrong turn.
I will revisit the debug steps and see if I can sort out where I went wrong.
