How long to run to keep battery from dying per week?
How long to run to keep battery from dying per week?
Since I don't drive a lot anymore these days so my car is sitting in my garage all week long. To keep the battery from dying, how long do I have to drive at the minimum please? The AAA guy told me to drive at least 1 hour total per week. Is that correct?
Thanks

Thanks. It's not just the issue with batteries dying. My friend told me it's not good for cars to stay inactive for a long time because oil clogging will do a lot damage to the engine also.

A week is not a long time. Modern cars can sit and be okay. I'd put a tender on it at least.

Yeah, a week is nothing.
If you're that paranoid about it, Lucas does an oil stabilizer for cars that sit for an extended period of time. Keep in mind that people park their summer cars for 6+ months of the year with no issues (I'm using my father as an example).

Re: How long to run to keep battery from dying per week?
I would recommend 30 minutes of driving every 2 months. Or, if it's in your garage, put a battery charger on it every 2 months.
Seriously, your car is fine sitting there for months at a time.
I saw a guy let his grain truck sit for 6 months over the winter and it started right up after 6 months of sitting. A good battery will hold a charge for 6 months.
However, I don't know how much of a drain that modern electronics put on a battery. You could disconnect one battery cable while it's sitting for months.

Re: How long to run to keep battery from dying per week?
My car's battery died when I left it in my garage for about 2 months. My car's battery was 2 years and 7 months and I got it from AAA. So I called AAA and since my battery is still under guaranty so they gave me a new one.
