2014 intermittent battery drain

I am working on a 2012 Civic in which the battery drains completely over 3 to 7 days. The battery was damaged due to all the drains so it was replaced and currently new. As the OP of this thread states, on the meter, after the vehicle sleeps, I see a constant drain .010 - .020mh which is perfectly normal as it is less than 60mah. I am waiting to reproduce the draw so that I can further troubleshoot the issue. The owner stated they were told of a 200mah drain but I have yet to produce it. After reading some oldl the threads here, I will leave it sit longer, maybe overnight and see what she is pulling.

I see it vary from 10 to a max of 30mah when the alarm is set and sleeping.
100% of the total drain is coming from circuit 29 which is the backup circuit.
We removed the remote start module since this was an add on and have a meter sitting on it now.

The convenience CCM, Keyless entry etc. uses 1.16 amp when awake, sleeps in 30 seconds when key not present, door handle pulled, button pressed with or without key. It goes right back to .01 - .02. I contribute the constant change between .01 and .02 to be related to the flashing LED on the dash,

I'll report back what I find tomorrow. After reading all of the reports of this issue, hope it help someone.

If you manage to catch it in the act, unplug the HFL control unit and see if the draw goes away. (assuming it has handsfree link)

Re: 2009 civic battery drain.

The drivers door, master power window switch is a possible culprit as well.

Easy to access & disconnect for test.

Re: 2009 civic battery drain.

I'll be checking later today, car is in the shop now, sat overnight so I should see something today.

I am also looking for lights that pop on or anything else. I am putting a WiFi Cam on it tonight as well, this way I can keep an eye on it around the clock.

Re: 2009 civic battery drain.

So tonight was interesting. We were able to reproduce the issue. We checked the A/C, Relays, harness, Alternator, Starter, turned different functions on/off. Disconnected the remote starter functions, door switches, lights etc. Then we noticed something was going on with the driver door and proximity sensor. At times, the driver side door would unlock from 3 to 4 feet away without even touching the vehicle. When it was able to do this we noticed a draw of 160 - 250MAH during that time. The draw went back and forth between 160mah and 250mah. We documented it against the base and then it went away. back to .01 - .02. When this happened, the proximity of the key did not unlock the door from a distance any longer.

We opened up the door, removed the driver door handle, checked the wiring, harness, through the door harness, inner door as well. All seems to be okay. I started looking at the handle now.

I tricked the door and hood switches to thinking they were closed and let the car sleep, I plugged the handle back in, and sure enough, started kicking off a current draw of 160 - 250mah and going back and forth. The CCM on the other hand draws 1.16A when awake so this was specific to the proximity sensor. If I smack the handle, the problem may actually stop.

While further testing the handle I came up with 3 scenarios:

1. Door handle works as it should, no draw detected. (Key in hand, touch handle to unlock door) Current draw 1.16 when the CCM wakes up (normal)
2. Door handle does nothing with the key in hand, button door lock still functions but no proximity as if the key is not there, No draw detected
3. Door handle senses key from 4 feet away, current draw fluctuates from 160 to 250mah, when key not present draw continues.

So it looks like the draw is coming from the door handle or the CCM at this point. When I smack the handle around, the proximity sensor seems to go in to a hyper mode and then is when we see the draw. If we leave it alone, the draw continues.

The pass side handle works as it should, no issue found.

Anyone ever hear of this one before? A new handle assembly is about $300 painted.
